I find this quite amazing.

Voyager 1 continues to observe the farthest corners of the solar system.

Launched in 1977 and still working. In fact it's only because it's nuclear powerplant is running out of fuel that means it will shut down soon.

Say what you like about old technology, it certainly lasts.

It's utterly fantastic isn't it?

The radioisotope thermoelectric generator output drops by about 4 watts per year but depending on what they manage to keep going and assuming there's enough energy for the transmitter, it could still be returning data in 10 years from now.

It's more amazing that many are oblivious to its existence.

Voyager is amazing. IIRC, it was incredible luck to get the alignment of the planets for slingshot purposes when they did - a window that could so easily have been missed.

Many of the people (and companies) involved from the beginning get hee-haw recognition and many have since expired.
Voyager has mapped more than Magellan and Capt. Cook. Very Happy

Don't forget it's coming back to cause trouble in Star Trek The Motion Picture.

I loved that idea, “V’ger” souped up by aliens and then released to fulfill its mission; to deliver what it had learned to its creator(s) 300 years later. I was going to post the video clip but it drags a bit.
