Shocked
so who on here remembers when a post on BCF would have members travel 200 miles in the snow for a meet up? this was the north wales lot traveling to aberystwyth via the snowy crimea pass and the south wales lot head north the same amount to meet up for a bag of chips and return home Laughing Laughing times gone by or can we do a national meet once c19 buggers off and bring some life back to BCF?

maybe the average biker is getting older and softer?

usually if i get close enough to see someone on a big bore bike they look to be in their 50's or 60's.

not as keen to endure hours in the saddle in British weather when we are fat, unfit and ache in the bones.

I think the average age of motorcyclists is getting lower since most people I see are going around on 125cc motorcycles and scooters, which make up 52.2% of all new registrations going by the statistics published by the MCIA.

The number of large capacity motorcycles is on a downwards trend. I reckon this is because younger and newer riders are using the vehicles for commuting and deliveries, etc and not as toys or fun machines. They are serving a utility purpose only really.

As such, larger bikes probably are ridden more by older riders.

SOURCE: https://www.mcia.co.uk/press-statistics

Another thing to consider is that the cost of getting a full license and the number of hoops you need to jump through to get one CBT, Theory, MOD 1 and MOD 2 compared to a car (Theory and Practical) probably means that riders will stomach the cost of a CBT for a utility use vehicle but not the full cost of licensing and training (i.e. DAS) for a larger machine. This probably forms an economical barrier to entry for younger riders compared to middle-aged entrants like myself who have much more financial stability and clout.

Finally, regarding the membership and reach of a forum today is different to that of even 10 years ago. I don't think young people use internet forums much anymore and probably opt for groups on Reddit or Discord instead. Even Facebook is boomer as fuck, you don't see teenagers on the platform anymore: just older millennials, Gen X'ers and boomers.

Before my time, but I would point out that the BCF BBQ was a great opportunity for BCFers to bond, including daytrippers who visited but didnt camp out.

Trouble is herding cats and organising a box of frogs is easier than organising that damn thing.....but I do miss it Crying or Very sad

BCF has never been popular, it is to be endured by miscreants and the fringes of society.

We occasionally meet up to explode/disable members or their motorcycles.

Not if I were the gayest man on Planet Gay.

I mean, think of it: me, meet you!

The BBQs were good and seeing the keyboard warriors in the flesh was odd and fun. Realising that the knobhead on here was actually ok in real life, but also the helpful person on the forum in real life was an annoying little twat.

I remember going on a collective ride to Matlock Bath with about 20 people, many hadn't started shaving yet.

If there was another BBQ next year, miles don't really matter, I would be up for it. There would need to be a loo though. The more that go the cheaper it gets for all.

That's me on the back of Deanoet 5 seconds in, I'd done the wales meet on my RS50 the year before, didn't want to do it again in the snow Laughing

And it wasn't just the north wales lot riding down, we'd come from Lancashire! Laughing

Maybe I was born too late. At 25 I prefer these forums and 90s bikes Neutral
I've been added to a couple group chats but it's mostly wheelies, childish bickering, or gibberish even I am beginning to have trouble understanding. These guys make me feel old.

I'd go to a BCF meetup. I do have my idols Laughing

Well the Christian Spiritualist meetings at the BBQs let anyone be Born Again unto Jesus, our True Lord and Saviour.

(He usually volunteers to go to the Spar for more firelighters and Vodka.)
