So good to see this thread come alive again Cool

Had a week off and have been down to Cornwall to see a very good old friend of mine that moved down there in retirement a few years ago. Originally it was supposed to be a biking holiday but eventually it got changed to a couples holiday so that Mrs Arry could come along as we've not been away - lockdown innit.

Really wanted to take my 911. But alas, some building works around the house meant that it went into storage and with everything going on, I didn't get a chance to go grab it before we left, so it was the daily that had to be the steed Sad Boo....

But my friend took pity on me and dragged this beast out of the garage Wub

So, I dragged Mrs Arry's sorry ass around on it all day - she absolutely loved it, and so did I. What a machine Cool

Torque right through every gear and every RPM, buttery smooth, fantastic suspension and brakes that never seem to tie it up in knots and just like an old pair of boots you put on, instantly comfortable and easy to ride - slow or fast.

Hit Lands End on a motorcycle - life goal attained.

Then we dicked around in the lanes for a few hours eating Pasties at St Just before setting off for St Ives.

It's fair to say that on the road to St Ives you would - had you have travelled that day - met a disgruntled man with an Italian Hyperbike that had come over typically Primadonna Laughing But thankfully it decided to behave itself shortly after and he was back underway again. Only a minor mishap.

Superb day - fantastic few days actually with a great host, great weather, great countryside and lots of laughs. Enjoyed it very much.

Then today, after having a week of sunshine and only one day of my own motorcycles in the last gawd knows how long, I decided to set off on a long one. TBF, I probably shouldn't have - I'd done just under 1000 miles in the car this week and was feeling pretty tired but the opportunity was there so I forced myself to take it.

Set off 8 ish and first stop was going to be breakfast. Ordinarily I stop at Andrewsfield Aviation as they do a neat brekkie at the air strip but today I rolled past it and thought I'd head towards Finchingfield first thing and see if the queue wasn't too sad. Didn't get that far before I spotted an incline in the road which was clearly an old railway bridge, and 'station road' to my right. New housing dominated proceedings but I persevered and..... Lo and behold, an old railway station converted to a cafe!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51229936224_ab52edcf3c_c.jpg

After this little find, I set off via Finchingfield to Thetford Forest.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51229935424_1ec7872ba5_c.jpg

Then onwards to do the Norfolk TT:

https://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcycle-roads/united-kingdom/east-anglia/ride/norfolk-tt-mildenhall-swaffham-fakenham-thetford-bury-st-edmunds

The Enfield was pretty much flat out up the A1065 section of the route, but still managed to go by plenty of other things, and on the way back down again it was happily carving through the lanes.

Played fuel light roulette a little too close - but didn't run out. Did put my waterproofs on, but the cloud always seemed to be behind me. Someone was smiling on me today it seems Smile

Day off yesterday, was planning to ride down to the coast but the bike for doing that was behind 2 other bikes so I dragged out the 350 as it was at the front and spent a few hours dodging tracked vehicles.

It's dry and dusty enough I had to swap air filter after about an hour. The original caked in enough dust the bike wouldn't idle.

Yesterday I took the R Nine T for its first MOT:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51240496559_2dce9b9e12_c.jpg

It passed, natch. Showing ~5750 miles after 3 years. Positively high mileage for one of these, now Shocked Sad Laughing Most of them get ridden to the coffee shop, or off to the barbers for some beard grooming and that's about that.

I'll have had it a year in July and have done circa 2500 miles on it. Not a bad start given lockdowns etc, but not the best. Hoping to head to Wales the end of this month - fingers crossed.

In the meantime I rode around the Essex lanes a bit:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51240780420_d006f4a83a_c.jpg

Then over to Kent, to pilot something a bit different:

Flew over Leeds and Sissinghurt Castles:

Picked about the perfect day for it. Fabulous experience.

Found that after 370 miles with my bike setup rather hard on mixed Highland roads my arse would want a rubber ring lol. Was a good run, mixed weather and mixed roads, from fast A roads to gravel covered b roads.

75 miles after work on a nice sunny evening. Couldn't do that if I were still in town (I'd have been too pissed by the time I got home).

Even got the famous Burnham Bends all to myself both ways - not a car in sight Shocked Cool

That's only a few miles from me. I do like to ride around that area. Cool

Set off - pretty impromptu - to Wales with Pigeon.

Nice campsite in Brecon, close to the town, but quiet and scenic, right by the river. Fairly eclectic mix of people - elderly walkers, hardcore cyclists, young lads having a weekend of it, but everyone seemed to get on and it was quiet in the evenings.

Lots of stunning views and reservoirs and coastal landscapes:

Set out in drizzle from Essex, but that cleared up by the time I got past Reading ish. The first night in Brecon we headed out to the Brecon Tap for some local real ales and then onwards for some Thai food; the heavens opened at that point and there were quite a few showers, and when we woke on our first morning in Wales it looked as if it was going to be a typically Welsh day..... ie....grim. The path of the righteous men was beset on all sides by the tyranny of evil drizzle. But the weather forecast for further north promising and as a result, we persevered through and were rewarded by glorious sunshine just as we got to Aberystwyth - and even more sunshine as we headed towards Llandudno. A long day's riding, 327 Welsh miles, rinsed it proper Cool

On day two we awoke to cold weather, and I do mean cold - I was contemplating wearing absolutely everything I had to keep warm. But by the time we set off and headed north again, the temperature came up and the roads were dry and fun. Headed to West End Cafe in Llandovery for breakfast which was winning Thumbs Up and then set off to Devil's bridge via Lampeter and Tregaron - we had that section of road pretty much to ourselves and we made quick use of it. Then onwards from Devil's bridge to Bala where and around a loop to the north of the lake, before heading back to Brecon to complete 260 miles round trip.

In the evening we went back for a second bite of Chang's special sauce I ate a metric shittonne of food whilst Pigeon stuck to his customary one dish wonder chow mein Laughing

Set off to blast home via the M4 as the weather was grim. Deconstructed camp in the drizzle, all wet and soggy, and rode out some very wet Welsh roads onto the A40 to pick up the motorway. At points the spray was so bad, and my pinlock had failed so completely, that I could barely see a thing - but my water proofs were not holding up so well and I just wanted to get home so I kept it pinned in the fast lane and went for it. A proper slog of 225 miles, but the juice of the long weekend was well and truly worth the squeeze Cool

Slogged my way to Peterborough - Peatboghorror - to see the mural to ol' Keef.

Essex lanes the familiar enough routes through to Finchingfield, Steeple Bumpstead and Haverhill then just ran the hell out of good roads Rolling Eyes Riding in Cambridge is, umm, pretty dull. Everything was bone straight and bumpier than Pigeon's piles after a weekend on the Striple. Still, got there, and managed to get my gimpy half disabled body to push the 230kg Big German Frau through the underpass to take a few pics. Frankly, I was battered by then so if you don't like the pics, I don't care I'm not ever doing it again to take more Laughing

I won't lie, I ended up with a blat down the A1/A14/M11 on the way back, coming back into Essex top side of Saffron Walden before making my way down to North Weald for something to eat.

Ended up at the Revetment - and I must say, many tasty, much good service, would definitely recommend Thumbs Up Loaded up on carb-city Mac N Cheese and a side of chips. Ooof.

Right opposite was something well worth looking at:

And the obligatory shot on the way out.

250 miles. Not all smiles, but pretty decent way to waste a Sunday Thumbs Up

Not really 'today' but the last 2.5 month, racked up a fair few leisure miles (1700) since MOT, fresh Pilot Road 5's and an excellent suspension setup from a former TT racer with a soft spot for Fazers.

Solo trek a few weeks back, ended up at St Mary's Loch but most shots were lousy (new phone leaves a bit to be desired).

Couple more weeks back, me and Kieran at Bamburgh castle (funnily enough same day they were filming latest Indiana Jones, we also passed Alnwick castle where they were filming new D&D film).

Somewhere in Weardale shortly after exploring an old bomb shelter found this quarry and had an explore.

Last weekend me and Andrew supposed to be exploring the lakes, made it to the meeting place in Barnard Castle to discover I had busted a coolant hose Rolling Eyes

Last Wednesdays madness over to Leyburn (ended up drifting the Fazer on a particularly slippery section Gagged )

Yesterday me and Jack testing his Fazer out (has a bit of a starting issue).
