Hi all,

Anyone got any tips for how to get this off. It doesn't look like it's designed to be removed with standard circlips as it has no holes. Trying to expand it while its sat in the gear reccess means it expands into the gear wall and no further. I guess i could cut it off with a dremel type tool, but anyone got any better ideas?

Thanks! Mark Smile

I'd say 2 person job, one prizing the thing apart and the other with some hooked picks to try and fish it out. And that's if it was ever intended to be removed in the first place. You missing a tooth? Just wondering why you'd want it apart.

Does it even pry apart, looks like it may be more of an internal circlip to me?

As above, why you want to take it apart?

Hook one end out with a pick and work your way around. It'll come out in the space you have there.

Thanks for the replies.

in the end i figured out i needed to move the gear next to this outside gear down by sliding the circlip on the opposite side of that gear (with holes) down the shaft, this meant the gear pictured could also slide down making space to remove the offending clip quite easily... It wasn't possible to remove it from the outside, I'm pretty sure of that!

Phew! just waiting in parts now, poxy gxsr gearboxes...! Smile

Karma marked appropriately due to shite picture.

This sort of subject demands crisp photos.

Very Happy

The correct tool is a flat heavy duty ring pliers.

These sort of things.

They should have a crosshatched face to prevent the clip slipping. The angled ends of those clips bites into the pliers face then.

You'll never get that out from there, or not easily anyway. The way to do it is to expand the circlip and then push the gear off the shaft, doing so will bring the circlip with it. Use a pair of circlip pliers like in the previous post and go in radially, not laterally.
