New to me iPad2

I got given this non working iPad2 16GB via Freegle and
after some tests decided it needed a new lcd
(It also needed a new touch screen after I mollocated the old one trying
to get it off)
Anyway, £23.89 for a screen and touchpad later I got the fecker up and running

After going through all that iTunes Apple ID palaver updated it from IOS 4.3.2 to IOS 9
which I believe is as good as it gets for this device

I'm holding it together with masking tape for now as I dont want to glue it down until
I'm satisfied the charge port and battery dont need changing, they seem to be fine so far.
wifi and gps works ok, haven't tried a sim in it but not that interested anyway
So, as a complete numpty as regards Apple devices what can do with it?

Can I get a free, no ads,no nags, no paid add ons VLC equivalent for instance
that will play any media file I throw at it ?
I just want use it as an MP3/ media player with some occasional browsing

tips? suggestions?

Whatever you can find on the app store really. I had one for a while and it was handy for a bit of light surfing, note taking and the like. I added a Bluetooth keyboard / case which made Google Docs / MS Office almost usable.

I just discovered you can get VLC for it and have installed it
via the app store
whoo hoo!

it wont let me copy media files from my PC to it
via USB cable
how do I do that?
do i need to use itunes or summat to do that?

I used to use iTunes to transfer media files for VLC.

I'm hating this fucking thing already
What a sodding rigmarole to copy, move, delete organise files etc
anything else, plug in a cable and off you jolly well go
This Apple shit is so restricted in what you can do
VLC is installed but cant play anything cos itoons dont like my files
Fuck you Apple! fuck you with pineapple!

I'm going to flog this to cover my costs and get a better Android tablet
I'll accept its well made and works well as it is but this IOS
system is a head fuck if you want to get under the bonnet
My cheap china tablet is shite in terms of quality comparison I know but file transfer and adding apps is a piece of piss.

Well I got the thing working better once I discovered the USB lead
didn't want to play with my PC but would work on one of my lappys
and transferred/played some media files on VLC with that.

UncleBfesters right, I keep seeing some free apps I fancy but
told they wont work on this thing
Well fuck you Apple!, fuck you with a toilet brush!!

While it does seem nicely designed, I really don't get the Apple thing at all.
Windows, Linux or Android, you can bung lots of stuff at it
and get it to work, albeit at times with some fiddling.
You could get an old XP machine and easily upgrade it to
Win7 or Linux maybe even Win10 no bother but
find the 'locked in' system of CrApple infuriating.
16GB? Why didn't they put an SD card slot in the fecking thing!
My cheap android tablet has 64gb onboard and will take up to 128GB of external storage

make that a chimney brush....
