I quite liked seeing that tensile tests for other products are also painfully slow. When testing our products the load rate is capped at 450 N/min so it takes fucking 25 minutes to test a single sample.

In the construction industry the relevant legislation is European Regulation No. 305/2011 and you'd be amazed at how many products either don't have CE marking (when they should) or cheeky manufacturers/ importers will alter descriptions, etc so that they sneak through on a system 4 instead of a higher system (system type for the assessment and verification of constancy of performance of the product in question). Many harmonised standards under system 4 allow the self-certification of products meaning that they should be tested but ultimately don't as the importer can just create a piece of paper anyway with the right information on it, or worse simply stating "NPD" (No Performance Derived).

Sorry, I just find testing and regulations interesting as it makes up a huge part of my actual job.

Interesting though, the leather was very high quality, suit well designed and constructed, skilfully stitched, good fit (apart from over-large cuffs*), all let down by fake armour. Either the armour supplier was conning them or they didn’t care, but why ‘spoil the ship..?’

* which a tester’s feedback would have resolved.
