I'm doing trip north of the border this coming bank holiday weekend. Going early Friday morning, coming back monday/Tuesday
. Been up before on the West Coast as well as some of the North and north east Coast . Any suggestions or must sees , first night accommodation booked at bearnock near Inverness... then heading north.

If you are going up over the top then Durness has a nice bunkhouse. (Superb breakfasts)

Check if they'll have room for you.

Sleep in the bunkhouse, eat in the guesthouse.

Comfy and picturesque.

Thurso has a good campsite and good hotels.
Your a hop skip and a holler from Jon O Groats if you reach Thurso.

Since you are this far up the planet and if you find the mental capacity, why not jump on the ferry to Orkney? It's fantastic.

Pentland Ferries are a family company and very nice people to deal with.

Orkney is a major archaeological site of spectacular interest (If you are into that sort of Shite.)

Funny you should say ....I've just booked a bunkhouse in thurso , Sandra's backpackers, in bearnock we're staying in a glamping pod.
A mate used to live up Lybster way so know that side quite well, went over to Orkney, mainland and sandy.
So next job is avoid the A9 and find a place to stay further west, for the 3rd day without leaving a massive ride home to the Midlands

The A93/A939 is a good alternative route to the A9.

Thanks Kgm I'll check that out , the average speed cameras are a nightmare, especially after 7 hrs or more of riding

The Tartan Bastirts put SPECS cameras all along the Lix Toll to Tyndrum road.
That was a ten min hoon previously and easy to pass other traffic now it's difficult.
60mph, but still.

And the cameras face forward. Mad

I don't think there much technical restrictions to turn all those cameras around in the future.

Just back from a little jaunt to Scotland, done about 1200 miles Friday to Monday, got to Drumnadrochit going through as many villages as possible on the way up.
going through braemar glenshee, on the way back down, then went through the dales, buttertub pass etc
Northumberland and County Durham has some great roads and scenery too, 10 hour riding the first day then 6-8 the next
Soreness already forgot and got post trip depression thinking I should have made it longer.
Travelling alone you meet some lovely people who maybe wouldn't speak if you had company.
Only down side is I found out bungees are shit, like to break when doing silly speed , and lomo bags like to melt on exhausts and tyres. Now have white wall tyres on my bike.
Sorry no photos of note as my phone camera lens is cracked.

another + for Rok Straps.
Expensive compared to others but they work well.

Packing up a tent and sleeping bag then setting off... air comes out and your load is loose with rope or ratchet straps... not good

Rok straps shrink with the load and keep it safe Thumbs Up

I did stop quite a few times Very Happy and most of the miles were the journey up there and back.
