I collected the bike today. The £ damage was not as much as a I feared as the garage let me off with some of the labour charges and it came to £400. Bringing the total cost of the bike to £1600 excluding tax, gear etc.

Some other issues were spotted though. The previous owner had fitted the wrong suspension. And they lied about the a new rear brake. It was quite old and had incorrect shoes fitted, so instead of wearing into the drum it was eating into the wheel itself. They had also bent the chain tension screws throwing everything out of whack. Most everything is also held on with zip ties including the front headlight. Seems they ruined the back brake to bodge a failed brake light MOT.

The garage thinks the brake fluid had also not been changed for several years so they did that and the front pistons are corroded. The garage thinks they are fine for now but I should keep an eye on them for leaking fluid etc. He said he has worked on 1970s bikes with less rust and damage Shocked

I added some pics of the now rust and pit free suspension, the bikes does feel better to ride but that front case does rattle around a bit on account of only being held in with 2 screws instead of 6, which is what all the zip ties were for. I have also gotten used to having no back brake so I will need to train myself into using it again. The garage also said all the stupid LEDS were also bodged into the main headlight so they will always be on unless I have them removed.

The front mudguard also turned out to be pieces of several different mudguards all held together with you guessed it, zip ties.

Other than some new tyres and a future change for the front brake piston. It would seem I am finally squared away bringing this little story to a close. And now that we have some sun, maybe I will get to

It looks like they did a good job.

And they're right about old bikes, too.

This evening I took my 1981 Kawasaki out for a blast. I mean, a real blast - no mollycoddling. Its forks look in the same condition as in the photo of your repaired ones. No rust at all. They made things differently in the old days.

Glad it's now all sorted for you mate. Seems the previous owners was a little bit of a cunt in how he portrayed the bike to you.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

I'll always remember buying my first 125 without an idea of what to really look for, it was an M reg Yamaha SR125. It wasn't the worst for rust but ALWAYS let me down.
Completely randomly it would just cut out and refuse to start for 30-120mins, it couldn't be pinned down to anything specific and was in my local bike shop many times. I gave up in the end and got rid for a newer 125.
It was a proper pussy magnet though... (see below)

My latest acquisition I did things differently, got lots of photo's from the seller, he did a video all round the bike and put it on YouTube for me. Then I visited and took a long test ride... so far it's been a dream.

That. But you also somehow failed to recognise the highly corrosive properties of, erm, advanced corrosion.
