One of my lads went see a chiropracter guy and was told his spine was
fused/rigid or summat from the neck down and he'd need 2 sessions a week for 6 months to sort it.
When I asked what is it you got? what it's called? he sounded vague

I know he's had few back problems in the past,( aint we all)
but my natural cynicism is screaming a blue fit.
I told him to see a doc and get a second opinion.
Maybe he just needs to get more exercise, do yoga, go swimming etc?

Are these folk useful? anyone actually used one with good results?

cant seem to find much useful info online as yet

Ah joint poppers. Woo. Right up (down) there with reiki, acupuncture, homeopathy, crystal healing, chakras and all the other new age bollocks.

Physiotherapists are the real deal.

Umm.... Ten years ago I'd have said they are quacks. Certainly there are American Chiropractors who say that they can cure cancer and even ailments in babies by joint manipulation.

What I've found though, having basically visited one through a combination of desperation and having it covered for a few sessions by health insurance at work, is that it works for me against lower back pain.

It seems the muscles in my lower back tighten and tighten until I'm in agony. The chiropractic manipulation does something to fool my muscles into relaxing. It doesn't feel psychosomatic to me but of course in that regard I can't really be objective. Something else my Chiropractor has done is increase the movement in my left foot which almost seized up after I broke it in a motorcycle accident. My chiropractor denounces any other people who claim to be chiropractors who say they can do things other than musculoskeletal related ailments. I expect they aren't all like that.

So, really you have to do some experimentation to find out if it works for you. My opinion is that people who work every day with a specific area of the body will build up some experience in treating it, even if the scientific premise they start with is incorrect. GP's are great and all, but they don't work with peoples spines every single day, whereas chiropractors do.

They talk about the 'million pound move' or whatever it's called where they fold you up and make your lower back pop, but maybe there is something in that? I don't know for sure, but I know that it works for me. I do also bear in mind that the chiropractor gets money from me, and the frequency he says I need to visit is definitely related to that.

So, if your friend has got some serious issue and he needs to see the chiropractor twice a week for ten years, I might question that. But again, if he goes a few times and he feels better, that's value for money, surely?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

His girl friend (veganish and a bit into all that new age shite) paid for him to go .
It was the sucking air through teeth, "oh dear, can't get the parts"
type talk and 2 sessions per week for 6 months that made me suspicious.
I reckon there's maybe something it but no medical name for the problem just stiff back vaguely related to other ailments sounded odd.

There might be a placebo effect but honestly, they're quacks. They'll give you a sympathetic ear and that might work for some people - maybe.

I'd recommend either getting a physio referral or going to a private physio. They're properly regulated, properly trained and actually have an understanding of how the skeletomuscular systems work. Thumbs Up
