Apologies if pea roast (quick search revealed nothing) - anyone getting one? I think I'll wait until it's in mass production and going for £30. Hopefully they also do one with a full size keyboard.

Looks like they'll smash the crowd-funding target anyway:

Wut, £100? So, a £10 device-on-a-chip with a 1000% markup?

I'm pretty sure that if I were a software rights holder, I'd tell them to fuck off their chaaaridy donation and pay me monies.

I think I will go with an emulator for free.

If it comes down to £30, actually ends up with any games (they don't own any game rights) and gets a HDMI connection then it may be worth a punt.

IIRC it was old uncle Clive Sinclair's modus operandi to advertise a product, get people to pre-order and then use the funds to actually develop the thing. The end product that eventually emerged would bear a similarity to that originally woolly advertised offering.

IIRC one or two of the software rights holders are still rather protective and actively issues cease & desist orders about hosting ROMs on emulator sites. I imagine they'll be seeking cash money or asking for the ROM to be removed from the bundle.

(39 units left - already exceeded the target - it's going to be the next Big Trak)

...and there's everyone thinking crowd-funding was new - ol' Clive was always ahead of the game.

He'll still manage to ruin it and go bankrupt somehow though.

...and they're sold. Well, thanks to all 1,000 of them for paying for the tooling-up process, I look forward to getting one a few months later at a sensible price.

Yes, the C5 will surely have it's day sometime in the future...

It was an electric recumbent bike (with a daft fairing) - he also made the Zike (electric push-bike conversion) - electric bikes are now massive in Europe - and becoming popular in the UK - he definitely had the right idea, just way too early and marketed at the wrong people.

I would have thought most of the games would be Abandonware by now.

Why did you Capitalise that as though it's an Actual Thing? Thinking

They'll doubtless get away with it for the most part, but if I saw something I'd written appear on a device with a £100K project budget, I'm pretty sure I'd be squeezing them until the pips squeaked.

I've been looking into emulators recently...

The C64 DTV blows it out of the water, and that sold for £29.99 nearly ten years ago.

If it had a screen and was like a handheld then it would be worth £100. But as it is? No way.
