finally got back out on the bike Saturday evening. my route took me through Hants, Wilts and Dorset. the roads were quite quiet and the temperature dropped to pleasant around 8:30.
going from Salisbury to Shaftesbury took me past Fovant badges...

Went out on the Plain yesterday on the 350 and 535. Was hot enough at 0800 the bike jacket came off pretty quick, after swapping bikes and hooning about on 535 for a bit the heat, even in a T-shirt, had me headed home around 1000.

350 behaved impeccably, I don't think Enfields are meant to be this reliable Laughing

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51323670591_26360c9cd1_h.jpg

535 has now done enough miles since rebuilding the top end (barrel, piston, valves) that I'm back to riding it hard and it's a real LOL bike off road. None of the mild mannered pleasant predictability of the 350. It rewarded me abusing it by vibrating the wires out of the rear light, spitting primary oil all over my boot and as I got home it started very slightly binding on the front brake.

headed to the coast for some sea air this time. stopped at Barton on sea to enjoy the view that looks across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
luckily the bulk of the summer crowds have left by the time i arrive.

I did quite a bit of that coastline last year, Lepe is well worth heading too and Lyme Regis is well worth a visit too.

Lyme Regis is a regular holiday spot for us. my partners grandparents lived there, so it was where she holidayed as a child.

dog friendly pubs and beaches too Thumbs Up

Sorted most of the issues from the last ride so took the 535 for a post work de-stress hoon.

This abandoned road is actually a Byway, marked as such on OS maps and even has a sign at 1 end saying "Byway". The council have taken it upon themsleves though to dump concrete barriers at one end, there is no closure notice I can find. It does though run near the local town mayor and county councillors house..... I make it my mission in life to regularly go up and down it at high RPM.

I thought this field looked pretty, photo doesn't quite capture it. The breeze had it swaying in a fairly rythmic way.

Random shot when I stopped for water. Yes the back of the tank is held on with a bungee, no I'm not changing that.

Gasket on the timing chest cover has started seeping a bit of oil so guess that's the next job. It's due an oil change anyway. Speedo cable snapped too I have a dozen spares so no biggie.

That issue has been resolved and now I've adapted to the idiosyncrasies of the bike, it's great! The engine is surprisingly willing, it does seem to go fairly well. Exploring all the little villages along the backlanes is definitely where it's at though. :u[/img]

The C90 landed last week so after spending a few evenings sorting out some teething issues, it was ready for a ride on Saturday. Did around 70 miles along the back lanes of Cheshire, eventually rising up into the Peak District (12% hills meant 25mph was my new top speed Laughing ).

She's a charming old thing; if the viffer is thrilling, this is fun. Riding it home on Wednesday was frankly terrifying, partly due to the woeful brakes, but partly because of a sticky throttle grip that meant unless I made a determined effort, I was braking against the engine too. That issue has been resolved and now I've adapted to the idiosyncrasies of the bike, it's great! The engine is surprisingly willing, new piston and barrel so I'm not thrashing the nuts off it, but it does seem to go fairly well. I don't disagree actually; it came with it and when I was about to head off that morning, a mate I was going to call in at said he had something he wanted me to pick up so the 'box went back on.

Been up in that neck of the woods a few times; I had a close encounter with some highland cattle hiding around a corner just north of Lochinver that nearly ended badly. Embarassed Ended up having to actually walk up to them to shoo them as revving engine / horn / creeping up to them didn't faze them and they wouldn't shift.

Or rather, can be. I've never witnessed any aggressive behaviour myself, they've always seemed to be pretty good-natured creatures (can be very curious though which I can imagine will make some people nervous). That said, I've known some (idiotic) people with dogs get trampled / near death experiences. #Darwin

Slightly rubbish start with rain as I headed over the Staffordshire Moorlands but did an 80 mile route over the hills then across Cheshire. Filled up part way around and worked out the mpg since the last fill up - 147mpg Shocked I’ve not been taking it easy either!

Didn’t miss a beat and I’m discovering lanes I’d never bother with on the VFR. This photo was at Rudyard Lake.

Took the ZX6R to Amwell nature reserve near Ware. It rained… a lot! Beautiful place though, with lots of bird activity out on the water. I was happier on the bike on the way back when it was properly wet instead of damp patches; poor road surfaces around Ware, tractor mud on roads and spray from cars (petition for mud flaps?) notwithstanding. It felt old skool because I used to live in Ware and the bike was my main transport back then so I got soaked a lot, and learned a lot in those conditions.

Haven't been for over 20 years, must take a bimble over on the bike again soon.
