CBR6 carb fuel pump points are pitted, I think it's covered about 15k on the new pump. I've ordered a set of points but as they are consumables I'm also researching other pumps as a fit and forget item.

The common fault on this Mitsubishi pump is the points eventually fail. I've heard Honda Africa owners replace the pump with Facet pump, sub 4psi to avoid leaking into the cylinders. Anyone here confirm if it's a worthy solution?

Got one on my VFR replacing the exact same pump as you have. I've fitted the 40171 pump which is working just fine.

Should be a comparative piece of piss to replace on the CBR because it's not so tight in the area round the pump. You'll need to work out what fittings you need because the facet pumps go in one side, out the other where the Honda one goes in and out on the same side.

Remember the threads on the pump itself are oddball American NPT threads, it's probably easiest to order the fittings at the same time as the pump. Or at a minimum an NPT to BSPT adapter so you can use readily available UK fittings.

The lady at fuelpumpsonline.co.uk was very pleasant and helpful on the phone when they missed a part from my order.

EDIT: Even got rid of a slight response lag when you crack the throttle in the midrange the bike has always had which I was putting down to the transition across a step on the needle profile. It wasn't, it was a glitch in fuel supply picking up.

I had three Africa Twins and the last two ate fuel pumps. I hada new Honda pump under warranty, a few second hand CBR600 pumps, they all failed again and again.

Then I tried a Mikuni vacuum pump, no electrics at all. That worked well until a very hot summer when it would occasionally cause the engine to stop and have trouble starting again.

Finally I got a Facet pump and despite only zip tying it to the frame and grafting a plug on it from my large collection of old Honda pumps it worked fine for about 60,000 miles until the bikes generator went instead and I retired the bike. According to the new owner on FB, they have got the bike running again (badly) after it has sat for 15 years in my garage, it had 103,000 miles on the clock when I stopped riding it.

Some people complain about them making noises or clattering, I have a suspicion I was lucky and that it matters which way up it sits etc.

We use facet pumps at work to replace OE lift pumps on all the different generators. They are better than OE kit by a long way.
