At the age of 40 I finally managed to get myself a motocross bike, midlife crisis.

Really did not like the red and white so change to stealth black

So that has the road legal kit on it?
I thought that was about £600 extra but there's still no indicators - or are you trailering it to an off road area.
Or is it best not to ask Laughing

Looks to have number plate though...

For an MOT it doesn't need indicators (or lights at all).

If it has a button for indicators it needs them, same with lights.
If they are not fitted at all then they are not needed for an MOT

I ride offroad in Scotland as well. It's a fucking minefield of debate about where you can and can't go.

I go anywhere and plead civil matter if challenged, then fuck off elsewhere.

No it doesn't that's a load of crap. One of my bikes passed 4 weeks ago with no indicators, no rear light, bodge tape over the front light and all switchgear present.

Show me in the MOT book where it says that crap about switches here's the book https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-motorcycles

That and as far as I am aware, its got no legal requirement for indicators, its an enduro single person no rear pegs.

It's not entirely a civil matter unfortunately but it's a nightmare finding anywhere decent. I've not had much luck thus far finding somewhere for repeated use but I've had the odd foray here and there. My 250L is getting a suspension upgrade before the next season.

I was told if it's fitted it has to work, although that was a while ago and I note the manual says,
Quote:
Headlamps are not needed on motorcycles that have had their front and rear position lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked.

I'd be surprised if I could take a bike with a misaligned headlamp in, "bodge tape" the lens and switches, then rip it off post-MOT.

You don't even need to tape the switches, this is myth.

MOT pass, switches present, taped light.

Interesting. If your tester passed it I suspect others wouldn't, although it's not clear why they wouldn't in the current rules you've posted. Is it likely that you can legally bypass sections of the MOT by putting tape over components to make them 'uninspectable'?

I'm thinking back 5 years or more where my R1 failed on headlight alignment. I said, "Daylight MOT?" (there's no such document but you know what I mean) and the tester said I'd have to remove switches to get a pass on that basis.

Yeah, MOT man can't remove stuff. If you have leaking forks, you can just wrap a bin bag round them and tape top and bottom. Can't inspect.

As Paddy says, but with lights it specifically states you can mask them. Not a word on switches present, there's nothing dodgy about my MOT bloke (well arguably his hearing when it comes to exhausts) and any tester should have passed that bike as he did.

Going to ask a probably stupid question here, but if you've got lights fitted (and assuming they're working and throw light where they should), why would you tape them up?

At the time I had no rear light fitted and the time I had to fit it before the only MOT slot I could get that week, it was easier to tape up and present with no lights.
