Joking aside, if you're prepared to avoid the motorways/dual carriageways (as they're not going to be comfortable) and to a lesser extent A roads (for the same reason), touring on a small bike does have some fairly significant advantages;
1) The bikes are small and light; if your accommodation doesn't have secure parking but does have an awkward garden/shed etc., a small light bike is far more feasible to be able to squeeze into a little hiding place overnight
2) Again, lightness and size - tiny back roads, squeezing to get past a car coming the other way, turning around on a narrow and/or sloping road are all far easier. If you're really exploring places, this is handy as not all roads lead to where you want or turn out to be what you hoped them to be
3) Fuel costs are peanuts which if you're watching your budget can make quite a difference over a big tour
4) Less likely to be "shunned"; non-motorcycle folk are more receptive to a little bike doing an apparently bonkers journey than a third of a tonne of shouty GS turning up and stopping people being heard as they talk to each other
5) Lastly but definitely not least, you're not likely to be scraping the pegs and will typically be going at a more sedate pace, so you can actually relax a bit more and see everything around you. After all, touring is about enjoying the journey! ____________________ TG. |
