Hi.  Anyone in or near Edinburgh got a Honda Varadero XL125 that I can look at for reference/sizing?

I'm tall and looking for a solid bike to build up some experience on. I don't mind a second hand bike and I see they come up for sale down south occasionally.  The only thing that's stopped me so far is that I haven't sat on one, just read the reviews.

Cheers

If it's any help, they are big.
I know a guy with one and he's a big chap, the bike looks fine with him on it.

The hyosung GT125 is also hella big for a 125. I have neither, nor am I near Edinburgh.

They're the size of a full sized motorbike basically. My next door neighbour has one, he's average sized and doesn't have an issue. You won't have a problem getting on one, or looking like you're riding a toy.

Given that the 2 stroke enduro 125s (DT/KMX) aren't really available anymore (or are ridiculously priced), if you're a big guy, they're probably the most suitable 125. Well made, although they're all getting old now and there are some heaps around for sale. Pricey too for what you're getting really, but they hold their value.

But if I was just starting out now (I'm 6'4), I'd probably end up getting a Varadero.

The size of the bike isn't all that important anyway. My mate is 6'7" and he rode a C90 round for years.

I'm 6'1" and if I was in the market for a newer 125, I'd probably get a grom because they are cool. Or a super cub if I was feeling spendy.

Oh it really isn't, I love little bikes, I quite fancy an Innova for messing about on, and the flightiness of little bikes is fun when you've been riding for a bit. But it is true that bigger bikes feel more stable and planted which is a positive when you're learning, and (despite the cc) the Varadero does have that big bike feel.

I had a Varadero, sold it with 77,000 miles on it. Comfiest bike I've ever had, would have toured the world on it, it felt that reliable.

Get an FI one, later than 08, buy spare stainless pipes and you should be golden.

https://cycle-ergo.com/ is the website where you can put a dummy on a bike to get a rough idea of the size.
