NC500 charity run.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/2021-08-28-ww-mfr-nc500-8.jpg

Probably the most scared I've been on the bike in a while was riding 4am to Inverness over the Dhirrre with 0 visibility, i know the road well but had no idea where i was but knew there were deer. Could not even see Aultguish lol, not the best start to a 14hr shift on the bike.

Visibility did not really improve much until Kinlochewe, Bealach was horrendous just driving through a cloud. Visor wet, glasses wet, steam up and had to make a campervan reverse, fair play to the guy was not easy. To then find the 24hr pumps were not working, lot of praying that would get to Kinlochewe.

Shout out to Russels at the club house in Ullapool for the lovely bacon rolls and the coffee that kept us going.

Heading north of Ullapool the roads were still surprisingly quiet, was dreading the Drumbeg road but was fine, seen the tractors. Guy stopped Daniel to give him a donation.

Stopping at Kylesku for a back stretch and some photos and then heading to Durness. Only really then did we have someone not willing to use a passing place.

Another shout out to the staff at the Spar who made a donation, thanks very much.

Offer the top the scenery changes end a mixture of great single track and some not so great.

Thurso fuel then pushing onto John o Groats, changed a bit since the last time i was there and mental busy with folk at the sign.
Made for progress heading down the A9 until a BMW with a roof box thought it was good to speed up as we went to overtake.... not interested in racing.

Another shout out to Willie Cowie at the Miekle Ferry Inn for staying open and providing some well needed lovely coffee. Great place and very convenient at the Dornoch bridge roundabout.

Feeling a jaded heading south and sticking to the official route meant heading through Dingwall and back through Beauly.

A massive shout out to Helen and Ernie for waiting at the MFR station for us for sometime to give us a very warm welcome at the finish line.
My wife had kindly let me do this on her birthday weekend as it was the only date others could do, headed to Hopeman feeling a bit broken.

All in all a epic day that i will remember, spent with a lovely group of people and on a very good bike the Yamaha T7.
610 miles and just under 14 hours.

Did a fairly touristy route around N.Wales. A5, A470, coffee at the Lakeside cafe in Tanygrisau, Fuelled up just after Trawsfynydd, A4212, B4391, Missed the Turn off at Penybontfawr for Llanrhaedar yn Mochnant due to a fuckwit trying to pull a "U" turn on a blind bend, and went down a nadgery in places, but otherwise quite pleasant road, the A490.

Quick blast out last night; through Cheshire then up the Cat & Fiddle, across to Buxton, through the Derbyshire Dales before heading over to the Winnats Pass before heading home (in the dark!). All was good, apart from when I stopped to take the pictures on the Cat & Fiddle, opened my visor (it was very hot even up there) and a swarm of midges flew in! I decided taking my helmet off would make things worse, so snapped the visor shut and accepted that after 15 minutes they should all be well fed and will stop biting. They seemed to. Laughing

Midge feeding point:

Last photo is down in Monsal Dale - possibly one of the few interesting bits of the A6!

These 80/20 ones were already on it when I got it, im a bit too cheap to bin them when they have not got much wear on them Laughing I go pretty slow and have not got into any serious mud yet so they have done _okay_ so far. Thinking of putting Mitas E07's on next.

From last Saturday (11th) to Thursday (16th) went up to Scotland for a small tour.

Main group consisted of lads and lass from Lincoln who had ridden up on the Wednesday, my mate rode back down from Skye to meet me on the Saturday at Fort William.

Other than M74 services, first stop outside Glasgow at West Ferry overlooking the Clyde

Then Loch Lomond at the Ferry terminal

I was really tempted to drop down that way on the route back and do the show but I thought I'd have to lug all my camp gear with me. As it happens I'd packed down small into about 40 litres including the tent, I reckon, and probably could have lugged it. But the wife got all precious about what time I'd be home on Sunday, and the weather looked like it'd close in, so in the end I just blasted (on an Enfield....lol) home Smile.

Tried splitting in 3 responses rather than one to get the page get issue sorted but no posts exist for this topic is still the order of the day Laughing

This weekend looked like the last time before middle of October I was going to have some time to myself to just go off and blast somewhere.

My bikery mates, including a certain Mr Pigeon, were all otherwise engaged and not really up for a short hop but I really wanted to get one last go before the 'season' ends and life is miserable again (more miserable...).

Had a work party on Friday and I promised myself I wouldn't get too sloshed so that I could set off in the morning. But then the company was good, the beers were nice and the setting was fantastic, so what can you do other than have a skinful?

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51496166345_760123a771_c.jpg

I stuck by home until about 1:30pm but made myself book a site so that I didn't just wimp out. Booked a small camp site just outside Baconsthorpe which turned out to be really nice.

Travelled up from Thurrock, through Navestock, Ongar, The Rodings, Finchingfield, Steeple Bumpstead, Stradishall, past the Desert Rats memorial in Thetford Forest, then picked up the A1065 to Holt before dropping down to Baconsthorpe via the last few little single track lanes. Circa 140 miles.

Stopped at Baconsthorpe Castle for a bit:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51492496088_2340897e04_c.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51491485432_342f885c12_c.jpg

Peaceful place, nice scenery.

Then got pitched up:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51493202325_7b2d6898f7_c.jpg

Took a walk to the pub at sundown:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51493201745_e43cf68928_c.jpg

Took a walk back at, umm..... yeah, very much nighttime - note to self, new torch required. The last streetlight was ~1 mile away from camp:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51492985519_f1c1b4042b_c.jpg

Got back to the tent to find I had neighbours - 7 Asian dudes from East London smoking shisha pipes Laughing Decent guys, made me a cup of chai and we chatted shit around the firepit for an hour or two before I went to bed.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51493201235_816250f172_c.jpg

Struck camp at 7:30am, bit misty, lots of moisture in the air - tent was damp AF and packing it away and putting it into my dry bag was a mistake - must remember to take my cargo net, next time.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51493201245_58c4249d09_c.jpg

Camp site had a greenhouse growing nice veg and the owners had put out bowls full of fresh tomatoes, salad leaves, and chillies. Really nice touch. I took a few chillies for cooking this week:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51491484542_d1f8434983_c.jpg

Then I set off through some much, much smaller lanes than on the way up:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51492494568_84215320e2_c.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51492275286_1c7d80962f_c.jpg

Headed to Walkers Snacks in Thetford Forest for breakfast, where I ordered a whopping 'Box 3':

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51492275101_286fb4da9a_c.jpg

The fried bread was scrummy Smile

~300 miles. Tired Monday but worth it Thumbs Up

Slightly delayed; these were from Sunday. Tried out my cheapo Amazon bar mount (on the crash bars) and my elderly GoPro. Worked really well actually although frustratingly when at low-mid rpms (i.e. cruising rpms) the mount resonated and made the image completely blurred. Frustrating as I was going through the Winnats Pass at that point and hoped to get some good footage. Anyway, grabbed a few stills from the footage. Not amazing but something different from me.
