The cbf is just the cheapest new jap bike - I'm not bothered about how it looks - buying new seems like the option with least hassle.
I don't mind a used ybr or a marauder.. but I'm not confident about buying privately. Also test riding someone's bike as a noobie seems a lot to ask
Paying less than £1500 for a good bike sounds ideal. I'm just not sure if I would get a good bike or a heap of junk! Is a 10 year old 125 in good nick wishful thinking?
If it is doable then I'm happy to read some buying guides to find what to look out for...
I can imagine on Wednesday having passed the CBT that I'll become impatient and not want to wait for the new Honda to be shipped... |

Autotrader isn't that great for low end bikes really. Tends to be dealers selling on there. Try Ebay or Gumtree. You included your postcode in the autotrader search link, so -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/b/Motorcycles-Scooters/422?Capacity%2520%2528cc%2529=75%2520to%2520224%2520cc&Manufacturer=Yamaha%7CHonda%7CSuzuki%7CKawasaki%7CKTM%7CAprilia&rt=nc&mag=1&_dmd=1&_stpos=wv60da&_sop=7&_fcid=3&_udhi=2%2C527
But as everyone else has said, don't spend a fortune on a 125. Save your money for a big bike, you'll be bored of the 125 in 6 months. ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR, '00 VFR800FI Previous - '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win (chinese copy of an old Honda design with a C90 engine)

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I passed the CBT yesterday. Instructor said if I ride like that I'll pass the proper test no problem
So I chose my 2nd bike... Suzuki SV650 lol.
Just need a 1st bike... I'm going to look at a 2017 YS125 for £1400 with 26k miles, but no MOT.
If that's no good I'll look at the Marauder.. and if that's no good I'll keep looking or wait for the Honda. |

I noticed that one too. Sounds too good to be true, so it probably is. I wouldn't even consider spending that kind of money on a bike without an MOT. A valid MOT isn't a guarantee that the bike isn't knackered, but the test contains some bare minimum checks that you definitely want done.
If a bike shop won't put an MOT on a bike they're selling, it's because they think it won't pass. ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR, '00 VFR800FI Previous - '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win (chinese copy of an old Honda design with a C90 engine)
