Just got a letter from the DVLA with a refund for my bike tax - that I didn't ask for.
Turns out that because I SORNed the bike when I first bought it, and then subsequently (two weeks later) insured/Motd/taxed the bike their systems are so slow these days they applied the SORN after I taxed it (their monkeys obviously can't read dates)
So now I have to tax it all over again and fight them to get back the lost months (they have deducted two months tax from the payment)

At least you didn’t get pulled via ANPR for riding without tax.

Now, despite the DVLA having cancelled and refunded my road tax I've received their snotty letter warning me that the bike is neither taxed nor sorned. After an hour long web chat with the DVLA it transpires that the only way to cure the problem is to tax or sorn it myself. Not even a hint of an apology, despite this all being their fuck up.

To rub salt into the wound after sorning it I received a warning that they may take further action because of the length of time that it was untaxed and not sorned.....

I'd be inclined to let them take me to court and show them up for the fucking idiots they are. You have a papertrail to show you taxed it after it was sorned.

Honestly, not worth the hassle.

Depends on your standpoint. I went to court over failure to SORN a scrap bike few years back knowing I'd loose on general principal. If more people did this instead of just sending them a cheque, it would become unenforceable.

In the above case, it's almost certain you'd win.

Well that's a new one.
- a new slant of things to come then; there are still few in the offices and I expect the backlog isn't been done in any form of order now.

Isn't there a MP campaigning against DLVA's continued f**k-ups (well, disolving DVLA would be a start - never fit for purpose). I'd be looking him up and slinging a letter/email PDQ. Then prep your for your court case (don't worry, you'll have plenty of time).

I was summonsed 15 years ago for failing to notify change of keeper, came to light after I sent off v5, clearly got lost, as new keeper rang them to ask for one. Rather than just sort it, they sent me a few letters which I didn't respond to as I'd moved to oz (hence selling the car) then 18 months later when I'd come back was summonsed. Magistrate threw it out in 5 minutes and told the dvla to stop wasting their time - think they had a special day booked for the court that month and he had clearly lost his rag with them by then

I believe there's a rule for job applications at the DVLA, that you can't apply if your IQ is higher than 95.

Or if there is a possability you could be employed in literally any other job.

I'm convinced the DVLA is just a government job creation scheme for the unemployable of South Wales. It's all the people who would have been in a workhouse breaking stones or picking apart old ropes in the Victorian era.
