No, the words are not harmful. It is the actions they may provoke that can be harmful, and those actions are down to the individual.

When they are used by a violent person against their partner.

No, the words are not harmful. The harm is either already done, which makes that partner afraid, or the physical action that the violent person may carry out is harmful. Words, people or situations may be intimidating, but that is not the same thing.

Quote:
When they are used out of context in a court or similar.

I guess you have an example in mind?

Who should decide in which contexts words are harmful?
How would you prove that words had harmed you?

i reckon the Amish are on to something.

Erm.....

I'm 51

There was no internet when I was a kid.

Most of the village in Somerset that I moved to when I was 11 had no phone.

Hell, most of London didnt have phones in every house.

I have a friend that is a contempory who purposely got pregnant and gave birth at 14.

I know people (when I was the same age) who ahd to go to the doctor and get the day after pill

I know what I was doing 35 years ago.

Why do you think porn would cause teenages to want to have sex with each other? It's been going on since the start of humanity.

Biological incentive and all that.

youve seem to have completely misunderstood my post Nobby.
i know youre an oldie, just like most of us on here.

i dont think porn causes people to want to have sex with each other, biology takes care of that.
in fact i think porn has a completely opposite effect.

there have been quite a few studies of the affects of pornography on the human brain. needless to say, the results arent good.

im on my 4th glass of gin at the mo, but i could probably find them for you when im sober, if youre interested.

or you could try Google.

Clearly you are pissed and the bottle of gin should be taken away by an adult. I, however, am on the rum.

This is not about porn. This is about teenage sex.

Yes, porn will colour men to think that all women are sluts but thats where us adult males make it clear thats not how women should be treated by our behaviour and showing that we consider them to be our equals.

Erotica has been around since the dawn of time, pr0n is a commercial product that's maybe been about since Victorian times - if one is generous - but in reality only became a viable business after WWII with the advent of cheap print magazines, 8mm, VHS, DVD and finally the Internet.

The problem with commercialised products is that you have a load of ppl trying to outcompete each other for attention. This is a good thing if the market is just entertainment but I think we can all agree that what's on Pr0nHub et al is getting rather twisted culminating in "The Great Reset" not long ago when most of the really dubious stuff got scrubbed from all the big sites.

Brett Weinstein just did a bit about this: when the world was less sanitised - kids weren't wrapped in cotton wool and pr0n didn't exist - their initial experiences developed more organically. Now it's innocently type "power tools" into a search engine and the poor kid gets sucker punched with - relative to their meagre experience - pretty extreme stuff.

Ultimately treating sex as a enjoyable but ephemeral pass time between strangers rather than the bedrock of - dare I say it - love and a healthy relationship between two people may lead society down a dark path...

There seems to be some controversy over overriding parental consent regarding the Covid vaccines?

What will be interesting is if the parent wants them to have it but the child doesn't.

This actually happened with me over the BCG vaccine when I was 12. I didn't want it and was threatened and cajoled into the nurses room. The school nurse threatened to have two sixth formers help her hold me down in a chair (which is what she was doing) to have it because my parents had signed the consent form. I totally lost my shit, pushed her off, threw the chair across the room and apparently kicked the doctor before leaving the building. The school started down the process of disciplinary action then dropped the whole matter very rapidly once they took legal advice and realised they had comitted criminal assault.

This was 30 years ago now, it was wrong then, it would be just as wrong now. The doctor and nurse could have been struck-off.

It certainly is an interesting question. However, there seems to me to be a tendency among some these days to allow young kids consent over everything. The problem with that is that kids don't have wisdom. How many kids actually understand the pros and cons of vaccines? We've seen lately that many so-called informed adults don't, and especially when a vaccine is new and hasn't been through the full long-term analysis that they would normally go through.

Who is responsible for kids? The parents? The state? If they are responsible for themselves, can a parent ever tell their child "no!" about anything? When kids misbehave, we're quick to blame the parents. You can't say kids should be able to make their own decisions over everything, then blame the parents when they do stupid things, which they most certainly will, often, until they learn better. Are adults allowed to teach them anything anymore?

Need to put lead back in petrol. The rot set in when they switched to unleaded. there is a good correlation between lead in fuel and risk-taking behaviour.

The most dishonest thing about Labour is how they tell younger people that they will fund services from debt. Debt means this: Younger people, when they get older, get below average services in order to have above average services now. Basically crap services for younger people at life stage X to pay for better services for boomers and gen x at life stage X. Debt for younger people is literally themselves in the future. So dishonest.

But using that system if a dad rapes his daughter then he is in the right, because he decides what his kid consents to.

There's this weird old concept known as common sense....
I don't have time to explain.

Thinking It's not described by science or emotion*, so we probably can't use it anyway.
