Not watched the clip.
I'm sure there will be vodka stills abound.
It's the national sport there.

Watched it all - quite a challenging piece and a little depressing. A lot of unanswered questions about the human psyche I'd say.

I've only seen the trailer, and it looks like a bunch of people making the best out of their situation, making good use of their time, finding fulfilment in their own way and being the best version of themselves. Sure, they look a little grey, they're unfashionably hirsute, they're dressed in boring clothes, they may be a bit fat, there's not a pair of lycra leggings among the lot of them and they're not jumping up and down pretending to be happy all the time. However, I've seen the brief interview with the producer, and I do wonder about what her frame of reference might be. Are these just worthless, low-status, low income men, to her? Or is the camera inserting some kind of essential social differentiation between herself and "the likes of them" which would otherwise not be there?

I've yet to find the time to watch the actual documentary, but from what I've seen of the trailer, finding thoughtful and creative old guys working on something in their garage, whittling on bits of wood or making vodka, seemingly with an abundance of free time, is all a matter of personal perspective. Unless the documentary also shows what's considered good and happy (even if that's living in a tiny flat in London, with computer to keep you company and a bicycle to get you around to the next protest/Starbucks) then it doesn't make a clear point.

I struggle to understand the thinking behind this documentary, too:

(The above is about a bunch of lower-class guys in Florida, who drink a lot and have hobbies, and don't seem to have any problem with being themselves, to the apparent chagrin of the viewers in the comments section)

You'd need to watch it. It borders on voyeurism but the cinemagraphic use of the tableau shot drags it back. Despite the expectation of a cold, dark & depressing backdrop (Russian Arctic Circle) there's a surprising amount of beauty to be found.

TBH I was in two minds about it until I saw the icons.
