Incredibly forward thinking or throwback to the worst socialist excesses?

Discuss...

Tax and spend (although I haven't heard any detail yet). Certainly doesn't sound like what at one time you would have expected from conservatives, does it? But I don't think that conservatism exists in this country anymore, within political parties. Strangely enough, I think the old traditional Labour voters are now about the most conservative people in the country in many respects.

Oh "conservatives" exist in their multitudes outside the cities. But the Conservatives? They disappeared when Boris got married Sad

I've more faith in Sunak as chancellor than I have in any other person in the cabinet. Also for that matter that anyone else I remember as chancellor.

Is that good? Not sure as you don't have to be very good to be better than shit.

Is it a good budget? Well, it's better for us plebs than I thought it would be and I'm presuming he has done his sums and it isn't going to bankrupt the country.

As said in the posts above, it's not what I would expect from a Conservative party and it does beg the question where do labour (or especially the LibDems) go from here,

Borrow heavily now, let inflation take care of the capital.

When billionaires are joyriding in personal low earth orbit machines, hindered only by the laws of physics but the working class canny afford to heat their hooses.

I've not bought anything from Amazon since COVID started.

I'm doing my bit. Cool

I had to turn the radio off when Sunpak was ranting on about his company's fiscal plan.

And then all that 'here, here and nae, nae' from the other animals lying around in the house of commons.

Just donning my Economist's Hat for a moment (don't worry, all my hats are foil lined) if government debt is "stealing from the future" is inflation stealing from the present?

"Quantitative Easing" (or money printer go brrrrrrr) seems like a Central Bank "fuck you," to anyone (or any business) with cash reserves, "we'll spend your money anyway!" If interest on government bonds is the penance paid for theft from the future what's the economic penalty from inflation? Yes, rampant inflation might fuck the economy but that's "somebody else's problem" versus a very real bond maturation value Thinking
