Phew! Filled that out. I added in a comment on something I'd not previously thought of: what about adaptions for the disabled (e.g. rear brake moved to handlebars) and the like?

So link to consultation?

Not many private individuals actually respond to these things. I actually responded to the one about insurance having to cover even vehicles being used off the road and they got back to me requesting I fill in another section because they had so few respondents who weren't in some way directly related to the industry.

If you knew about but didn't respond to the consultation, you have no right to be riteously aggrieved if it passes into law.

Private individuals respond to this all the time when they find out, then they get ignored.
Its online survey is in the same style as the monkeysurveys from the odd student here and they delete the response after a while so people can't see the volume of replies annoyed at the proposals.

I did see other means to respond.

Pretty much as i suspected, though the retrospective aspect is quite worrying, bike dealers will be rubbing their hands when everyone needs to buy a stock exhaust system

If you're just throwing a slip-on at the bike and keeping the cat, how overzealous are they going to be about the noise aspect, especially if it's not much louder than the stock can? And how are they expecting to tell who's got a PC fitted (or even harder to tell: an ECU reflash). There's the argument that having a PC fitted will actually reduce emissions if the bike's been properly dyno tuned...

The MoT and vehicle excise (road tax) will have to be completely redone to align motorcycles with cars. Several problems with that...

The DVLA will need to "catch up" (various motorcycle related services are done by hand at the moment.) Legislation will need to be drawn up, new training and test equipment for MoT stations, etc. etc.

Considering the number of vehicles - cars outsell bikes ~30:1 - and then how many are actually modified someone's going to have to justify spunking millions of pounds for a problem that doesn't really exist... and will never exist! Self driving cars we will see, maybe even in my lifetime Wink Self driving motorcycles we will never see.

The existing system works quite nicely in that manufacturers can only sell bikes to the current Euro emissions standard and that doesn't really cost the government anything. (Or more accurately won't cost any more to continue the existing system.) And anyway, what's the point when we can only buy electric bikes in a decade?

Since when do they have to justify that? Laughing
