Picked this up recently in Saskatchewan, Canada. Anything pre 1987 can be insured for $120 for the year, insurance rates for any bike newer than 1987 are extremely high (600cc sports bikes are around $3000 for insurance) you can insure for a month at at time with a higher premium but still too pricey.

The knock on effect all the above caused the price of anything pre 1987 to sky rocket. With this and some health issues l haven’t had a road legal bike in a few years.

Bike was sold as not running with the previous owner not having a clue why that was. Even so l ended up paying $1800 which in my mind is a lot for a bike that doesn’t run but that’s what it was worth here….

Lucky for me the only issue it had was that someone swapped the carbs or installed the wrong sizes main jets that were several sizes too big. Corrected this along with a check of the compression/valves/carb balance/oil change and it’s running perfect.

I had a GPz750 and the genuine workshop manual covered that model as well. Best manual I ever bought, it even had explanations of how various parts worked (like the neutral finder) and tips on filling a brake line rather than just bleeding it. Later ones are shit in comparison.

So what's the deal with bike insurance? In the UK you can get sub £100 insurance for a vintage bike (>40 years old) but everything else is proportionate. I'd have thought it'd be dirt cheap over there given the lack of ppl... less accidents surely?

Socialism

Only one insurance company for the whole Province SGI (Saskatchewan government insurance). No competition and the dirty commies don’t like motorcycles so have aggressive policy’s in place to discourage motorcycling such as rates x3 times that of a car/truck. They also charge sales tax on private purchase of all used vehicles so if l sell my truck for example the new owner will get hit with VAT based on book value when they go to insure it.

Other providences operate a free market for insurance so rates are lower as there is private insurance company’s and competition.

Oofte - between bears and snow ..... and then done dry up the chuff by the insurers that's an expensive hobby with a short window of use.

At least the lack of people is a bonus so the chances of getting hit might be lower .....

Cool bike though Thumbs Up

Wow, that's so bent even "9 Bob Note" doesn't cover it. Still at least all the taxes are low relative to the rest of Canada and certainly compared to Europe.

50x30' (1500sqft) attached heated garage with two 16ft overhead doors. Its big but l wish l went bigger along with higher ceilings rather than the current 9ft ones.

House is a ranch style bungalow 3100 sqft with 5 bedrooms. Will start a thread showing it off as l designed it have had it built but currently suing the general contractor for messing up the foundation and roof among other things.
