Can anyone recommend a reputable and competitive company? I'm looking to get a bike from Copart Wolverhampton to where I live near Maidstone.

Copart want £388.50

Was looking to pay less than half that ideally if possible. Have heard anecdotes of getting bikes from one end of the country for around £120?

When I was considering buying an ER6-F from down south and getting quotes almost everyone was in the same ballpark of £400 give or take a score. I don't know who is transporting such a distance for only £120.00. Hardly covers the diesel for the van never mind the drivers' time.

You could always hire a motorcycle transport trailer and do it yourself. Around here a trailer is £30 a day for hire.

You could try https://www.shiply.com/ (never used them myself) but will be cheap; alternatively you won't gar far wrong with https://www.sosmotorcycletransport.co.uk/

Depends whether you can find someone who's doing a combined load to/ from your area, doesn't it - a different matter if its a round trip with just your bike on board. When the SOS guy delivered my bike to my house back from France a few years ago (or at least the remains of it Crying or Very sad ) I think there were at least 2 more in the back of his van

I got my scoot delivered from Kidderminster to Bristol (about 77 miles) for roughly £1 a mile.

But, this was a route they did often and combined with other drops and pick ups, I had to wait a week or so for it to happen.

Wolverhampton to Maidstone is roughly 180 miles?
Unless this is on an oft used combined route, you're going to have to cough up the dosh.

Yeah I know what you mean, you wouldn't expect anyone to transport one bike that distance for that kind of money but from what I understand there are companies out there who deliver all over the country picking multiple bikes up on route, you just have to be patient and flexible on when they deliver.

I do know of a few low loader recovery people round my neck of the woods who will recover a car for around £1 per mile which I think is total lunacy because I wouldn't even run one of my taxis doing 50mpg a long distance route like that for £1 per mile let alone a diesel guzzling thing like a 3.5t or 5.5t low loader doing less than 30mpg. But they're doing it! Must be desperate for the work :-/

I have a motorcycle trailer already but it means taking a day off work and quite frankly I'd be better off paying the £388.50. I've had a few quotes so far from people I've found on eBay in the region of £280/£300 but to be quite honest for the sake of another £80 I'd probably rather just let Copart arrange it as it cuts out any potential agro with a middle man.

Fair enough mate, sorry I couldn't bring anything more to the table on this one. Will be interested to see what your final best price is though so keep us updated.

UPDATE

On closer inspection the £388.50 quoted by Copart is actually plus VAT which makes it £466.20 which is certainly more than I'm prepared to pay and would consider picking it up myself for that sort of money.

Had a look at both of these. SOS certainly looks like a very sensible option at only £204 including VAT for anywhere UK mainland delivery, very reasonable!

I did put in to receive quotes from Shiply though and got quotes ranging from £152 to £336.

Quotes of £152 and £154 seemed to be just general couriers who do a bit of everything but one of the quotes at £159 did seem to be someone who specializes in motorcycle transportation so I've made enquiries with them to see if we can get the ball rolling. I've got to the end of the day Thursday to have it collected before I start incurring storage fees but it's only £5 per day so not the end of the world if there's a few days that go on top there.

Yeah when I looked into using Shiply the issue was finding someone who you could trust with the bike, and who was definitely insured to transport them (ie, will cover any damage incurred to yours). Whereas SOS definitely know what they are doing!

Reminds me of the time I picked up my first scooter - found one at a great price but had to get it from Newcastle to south Sheffield. I advertised on several forums and found a guy going the same way willing to split the petrol costs, he was picking up a new engine for his van - and hoping the current one would last the journey!

Only cost me £30, but then had a harrowing time trying to balance the scooter along a thin piece of wood into a high up van entrance (no tail lift).
Managed all that, picked up his engine and made it all the way home - till the very last left hand corner - where his engine decided to leave the pallet it was on and roll over towards my scooter. Thankfully it stopped literally millimeters from the back end, had even more of a pain righting his engine so we could get the scooter off again... Shocked

I've used Shiply twice and it's worked out well both times. Was something like £80 to ship a bike from manchester to south Wales, which is pretty good I think. Just check out each of the bids as some people are just a guy with a van and others are proper companies that send employees out to do the deliveries.

So this is bizarre.

Before posting on here a few days previous I actually sent an email to Dan from the YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/c/BudgetBucketListCarsAndBikes

Anyone watch his stuff? I quite enjoy the content. Well the bike stuff anyway.

He's mentioned in one of his videos that he'd used a company he found online to transport a bike from the north to Cornwall for £120 but I couldn't for the life of me remember who he said it was or which video he mentioned it on. I wasn't going to sit there going through all his videos again from start to finish so emailed him, didn't get a response within a couple of days so posted on here.

Freddyfruitbat very kindly recommended Shiply and I found someone on there who looks promising (although the proof is in the pudding, watch this space) he said he's collecting Thursday. Not the cheapest but very close to the cheapest quote and appears to specialise in motorcycles whereas the other slightly cheaper ones appear to be general couriers who just do anything and everything. I actually googled his trading name and managed to contact him directly and without me even asking him to he dropped the price from £159 to £120 (which oddly enough is what Dan on that YouTube channel said he'd paid on one of his videos) so I snapped his arm off. Makes you wonder how much commission Shiply take on their bookings Thinking

Never completed the booking through Shiply, went direct, his terms are cash on delivery, he does Copart frequently and has their collection booking app so all he needed was my member number and the lot number and he's arranged it all directly with Copart (even got the email direct from Copart saying collection has been arranged by a third party transporter firm and gave his details, so all looks legit).

Anyway Dan from YouTube finally got back to me and said it was Shiply he used to find the bloke and named the guy who done it for him. Guess what... same guy! Which is a bizarre coincidence as I must have got close to two dozen quotes off Shiply. Dan said he's used him many times since and every time he's been spot on.

So, for anyone else interested, looks like a really good person to recommend. I've yet to receive my bike but given the recommendation from this Dan fellow I think it's safe for me to recommend him already.

Looks like he's based in Southampton.

I think he's eastern European as his name is Sylwester Malek.

Company name Masyl Trans Ltd but also trades as Curierdriver24

With this in mind I would imagine if you need to get a bike from the north or the midlands to come south (or visa versa) he'll probably be very competitive.

If the pickup or dropoff is not in the south (i.e. north to midlands, or east to west) maybe not so much, but no harm in getting a quote either way.

Looks like you've settled on somebody, but just for the record, I have used SOS Motorcycle many times and they have always been exceptional, I'd have no problem recommending them for recovery or delivery.

And I've used A2B motorcycles many times (who quoted just over £300 to move a twist-n-go from Perth, Scotland to West Cornwall !)

For sure! I think it's safe to say with SOS being an option there's no need for anyone to pay more than £204 for mainland to mainland transport. Can't go wrong really can you? Unless it's very local, is it really worth potentially taking the day off work or even paying your own expenses?

What did you get from Copart out of interest?

Glad you asked. More excuse to bore everyone else to tears talking about myself.

Another MT10

2017 non SP model but in the colour I like with the garish neon yellow wheels. 8k miles. It's gone for a slide but doesn't look like it can have been very fast as it looks like there's only damage to two or three of the side panels but the engine casing has taken a whack and has a hole in it and somehow the rear wheel has been buckled (but I sent the photos to a mate who owns a tyre shop and he reckons it can definitely be repaired and there's a company close to me who do it). Most of the parts that I have been able to identify that need replacing are already on order.

I'm hoping to sell it to my dad or my mate Mark for what it owes me as it would be nice to see it go to a good home and see it regularly. If neither of them has the money or wants it by then I'll flip it even if it's only for a couple hundred profit it's something to do isn't it!

I know Mark is on the lookout for a Bandit 1250 so not sure his budget would stretch this far but I'll see if I can tempt him...
