Anyone got any advice. I have been offered a 1999 honda rebel 125. Only 11500 on the clock. Paintwork chrome etc all ok no rust. Going to see it tomorrow. Any advice/what to watch for greatly appreciated.

How much?
If it hasnt been sorely neglected or abused it's probably got a lot of life left in it
At that age I wouldn't fret over cosmetics much.
I'd be mostly concerned that it starts easily from cold doesn't smoke, knock or rattle and
there's no frame damage or serious rot.
( In don't know the Rebel but older Honda could rot like buggery if neglected)
If you have any doubts over the engine walk away unless you're sure (or been informed by
a knowledgeable type, NOT THE SELLER! ) its nothing to worry about
If the engine is a good 'un
Check the forks for straightness, pitting and leaks
Good brakes, chain, sprockets and tyres will be nice but they're mostly a consumable and so fixable
not so good will give haggle power.
I probably want to check its cold before the seller starts it and whip out the dip stick to
see/sniff the condition of the oil.
I might also put a meter on the battery when it running to check its charging OK

Finally
125s are often used by new/novice riders who have limited
spanner skills and have not looked after them as well as more experienced riders, so take your time assessing it or take along some who can.
Even if this costs you a 'drink' it may save you dosh and arseache in the future

The seller is asking 1600 smackers seems a bit high suspect it maybe cos of the low mileage. Anyway thanks for the info really useful for tomorrow.

I see you're in France so perhaps the 'mileage' is 11500km?
If so that's only 7500 miles so the engine should hopefully be sweet

Its still 22 years old though so buyer beware

1600 smackers eh?, is that real money or
johnny foreigner dosh Laughing

No idea if that's a good price or not TBH

Won't pull the skin off a rice pudding, and won't ever be a Harley. For transport for the money? It's probably as good as it gets for that price these days.

I'd rather remove my testes with a blunt spoon and spend the rest of my life riding scooters.

A Rebel 125 is NOT going to somehow be better than a CG. To be fair, it is like asking which is the best venereal disease.

Thankyou all for your advice etc not sure I will be taking the one regarding a blunt spoon Laughing

Yes I do live/retired in france and the bike has done 11500kms.The price in euros is 1900 about 1600smackers. I am after a decent 125 as I am not looking for speed just something that will let me grow old disgracefully and remind me of my very distant youth. Also round here in the creuse not sure the roads are good enough for any speed.

Its all Henry Coles fault I read his book a bikers life and it reminded me of what I have been missing. One again thanks for all the qdvice and as they say in France Bon Courage.

I had a Rebel 250, it was one of the most fun and comfortable rides I've owned.

125 version will be lighter, can't say I'd be happy with it but if it's your first bike it should be good fun.

If I was in the market for a 125cc cruiser, a Honda Rebel would be very near the top of my list. They are well made and generally reliable and the riding position is a lot more normal than many others.

No worries mon brave
Nous all parley the old franglais mange tout
le petite 125 cest bonne pour le tootling , mais non la sport vitesse
if you get my drift.
Mind you, if vous et un 'fat bastarde' le rebel will sera lent à monter la collines

Looks in nice condition, decent price, and for your use case, sounds like a good fit. Think that's a win. Congrats!
