Got the MT10 from Copart delivered today.

No V5 (may follow in the post as they have done in the past but no biggie if I have to apply for a new one).

However only one key and it's black.

Does this completely rule out getting any extras cut without getting a while ignition and barrel set change, or is there a workaround?

Yeah you can get the chip cloned. As far as the immobiliser is concerned, both keys are identical but will work.

Thanks guys. Is it possible to get a new red key without going through the faff of replacing the lockset, ECU and immobiliser antenna?

AFAIK you can’t replace the red key other than by swapping out the whole ECU etc.

Ok cool thanks. Well, as long as you're able to clone the black keys... I suppose that makes the red key non-essential.

Why would you need to replace the lockset and antenna?

I don't know it's just what was stated in that link that Stalk posted above.

What model was it? Don't wish to be rude, but if it was a relatively inexpensive model like a 125 for a WR450 or something and not fitted with an immobiliser, may explain why no red key is required?

FAITH IN HUMANITY RESTORED:

Sent this email...

Dear sir/madam

I’m really sorry to bother you with this enquiry but I recently purchased a slightly damaged salvage MT10, registration KU17 RLJ.

It did not come with the V5 and it only came with one black key.

The key however had an Alf England keyring on it so I’m wondering whether you supplied the bike to the previous owner, and if so whether you might do me the courtesy of contacting them on my behalf to see if they have the V5 (to save me applying for a new one) but most importantly the red key. I would be happy to pay them for the inconvenience of responding to my request, and yourselves also.

It might be a tall order, what with data protection and GDPR, but no harm in asking, if you could help I’d be very grateful.

Kind regards

Michael Stead

Response...

Good afternoon Mike,

I contacted the previous owner as he is a very good customer of ours. He has kindly just dropped off the spare keys 1 Black, 1 Red as well as the owner's manual and service book.

The V5 was submitted to the insurance so you will need to contact the DVLA for a new V5 unfortunately.

Kind regards,
Steve

WTF? Talk about above and beyond, from both the dealer and the customer!

So now all I have to do is sort them both out with a drink and ask the dealer to post the stuff to me.

Unbelievable!

So yeah, big shout out and thanks to Alf England!

That's karma I guess. Not to blow air up one's own arsehole but my past is littered with similar good deeds but it's nice to get one in return now and again where someone has gone out of their way to help you with nothing in it for themselves even though they don't know you from Adam and will probably never ever meet you Dance!

MT09, which has an immobiliser AFAIK.

It is good when something like that happens. Thumbs Up

Very strange! How many black ones did you get? Might be worth a call to the dealer just to clear it up?

Just the two. Only have two black keys for my Yamaha scooter too, but that has no electronic security.

Far from being an expert but if it's got an immobiliser and it's as late as 2016 doesn't seem right, a quick call to the dealer wouldn't hurt!
