Recently moved house, so updated the V5s on my vehicles to match the new address. Got the new V5s in the post no problem. Couple of weeks later I get a snotty letter from them telling me that the bike I've just bought isn't tax'd or SORN'd and I'm breaking the law .... WTAF??

They didn't just update the address on the bike, they've registered myself as a new keeper which means my bike was automatically untaxed. Fortunately it's been sat in a garage and not used in that period, but I could have just as easily been riding it around illegally and likely to get it impounded for not having paid the man .... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Waiting to see what happens with the complaint letter but I don't expect I'll even get a reply TBH.

So, you are now the 'new owner' of the motorbike you already had? Interesting...

I wonder if 'previous owners' went up by 1?

No, it was physical copy sent back and I only completed the "Change my name and/or address" section, not the "this is the new keeper" section.

It has. Used to be 2, now it's 3.

They did this on my car a few years back. Sorted out with a phone call, but dvla is in an utter melt down at the moment. Paralysed by their union, anything that needs human intervention is taking months. I've been stuck without a photocard after it expired, because I have some hgv entitlements it has to go through the medical section too. I've heard of people waiting up to 6 months so far. You can't speak to anyone, see how you are in the queue etc. Fine most of the time but until it gets back I'm in a sticky wicket if I need to produce whilst in France etc.

I have to renew my licence every two years, this year I did it on line and got it back before I got the letter in the post to remind me to re apply for the licence. It only took 8 days.

Some applications they're still only doing September's applications at the moment (and it's not moved in 2 weeks). We were a bit concerned the missus hasn't had her DL back for renewal in like 6 weeks, but she's still in a backlog.

Doesn't surpise me.

Apparently around 50k HGV drivers are waiting for their licences so they can drive. So the HGV shortage is in large part down to them.

They are more interested in arguing that it unsafe to go back to work due to covid while the entire country is back to work.

Certain services are still post only. And worse, cheque or postal order! In the 21th Century Sad I wonder whether the online services have only been implemented under duress Thinking Automation = less humans required therefore bad (in the union's eyes.)

I've noticed when getting a fresh V5 (e.g. NOVA + dating letter) they take >3 weeks to cash the cheque after the V5 has been issued. I wonder what would happened if everyone formed a "dirty protest" of cancelling cheques, wait for a threatening letter and then pay it. Fuck them about as much as possible. Yes, in the short term it'll make things worse but maybe it'll pile on the pressure to reform.

Fire the whole lot and move the DVLA to Scotland Laughing

They only gave it to the Welsh gits as they were feeling sorry for them.

The scottish lot are going indy - so f**k 'em.

Just do it in England - pick a town/city, anywhere (almost) - well somewhere that speaks proper English.

Actually got a response back to my complaint (wasn't really expecting one considering...).

They admitted it was "clerical error" on their side, and are sending me a new V5 with the correct amount of previous owners.

I've lost out on the tax I paid for that month though cos I SORN'd the bike as soon as I got the letter about it not being taxed or SORN'd. Not massively worried about that cos I probably won't be taking it out until next year now anyway, but there was no apology for the potential of me riding it around without tax.
