Can anyone suggest some cheap chinese bike makes that have cheap easily attainable parts?

I was thinking of getting this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133928399933?hash=item1f2ec1343d:g:sMEAAOSw6IJhiTNz

But could not even find an exhaust via a quick google search.

Are Directbikes / Keeway / Lexmoto any better when it comes to finding bargain bin parts?

Reason I want a cheap chinese piece of shit? Just looking for a cheap fun project bike to tinker with. If I get a Honda or Yamaha 125 I will end up paying a premium for it. I'm not against getting a 50cc either. Budget of like £400 for a bike whatever condition.

Usually these sorts of bikes are based on a particular '80s Jap bike so step 1 might be to do some research so you can say "this is a CG125 knock-off" for example. After that you might find a whole host of other knock-offs that are broadly compatible. The other approach might be to track down a good source of parts and then see what brands/models are in stock and just seek out those bikes.

TBH the whole thing's a minefield Sad

'Yamasaki' - cool.

Not the sort of bike to worry about correct exhaust Id have thought. Hack off the slincer and find something suitable off feked.com.

It runs which is a bonus.. and its carb'd which I think is also a benefit at his price break. It will be base on CG125 or GN125 I guess..

I'd give it a go. Trade Bikes Direct appears to be priced realistically.

It's under £400 and you don't seem to be under any illusions about what you're buying, can you afford to lose £400 on some hobby time? If so, go for it.

Not that you've said you want to do this, but for what it's worth I don't think you'll ever flip it for profit at that price, even a meagre pile of spares is going to add 50%, and I don't think you'd ever see £600 in a private sale.

I've paid under £400 for a Honda project bike before, so don't limit yourself to Chinese. I'd also factor in that on a Chinese bike you will probably spend more replacing crap stuff than on a Jap bike, and at least a Jap bike will be worth decent money once finished.
For parts just find out what it's based on and go from there.

Yamasaki is like the best brand ever.

What I want to do with it? Not much fix it up a bit and use it as a commute to the local shops.

As for the exhaust comment. yea, your right. Although that was just an example. My main concern is having never had one of these things before and if it needs parts replacing that are a pain to get. I don't really want to frankenstein the bike.

Yes, you will pay a premium to get a bike which you can get parts for rather than buying an unfinished POS project bike that will never be finished.

I suspect you already know that a Honda or Yamaha 125 would be a much better purchase but you were hoping that there's a solution for finding easily attainable parts for cheap Chinese 125 bikes. Wink

I reckon you're overthinking it
It a CG clone made in the millions in china turkey pakistan india brasil
and there are shit tons of bits you can use on it
OK maybe a few might need a bit of 'finessing' but it could hardly be a simpler bike to keep running

frankenstein bike ? seriously?
dont get precious over a Yamasuki mate
just think cheap hack/shitter bike, do the important functional stuff
then get on ride the fecker

I'm always scouring Ebay for project bikes. I've got about 4 pages of bikes on my watch list. Doesn't mean I'll buy one, though.

If I don't feel passionate about a bike, I won't buy it as a project. Anything too commonplace, I don't want. Anything I wouldn't want to ride myself when finished, I don't want. Anything that's clearly junk, I don't want. Anything I feel is overpriced, I don't want. I'm really picky because I know that a bike project will be a fairly significant net loss. They cost money you'll never get back, so they should at least be something in which you're really interested.

I have a theory: the reason the nice project bikes don't make it onto Ebay very often at a fair price tends to be because the owners are hoarders. They believe that 70s and 80s Japanese bikes will command a high premium, even in total junk condition, well into the future. So they're sitting on rust buckets in overgrown gardens in Wales, oblivious to clean air zones and de-motorised areas being implemented in major towns all over the country, in the sure belief that the same old guys who currently pay £15K for a GPZ750 Turbo will always be there, forever. Maybe they're right; maybe they're wrong.

So, a sweet little CL350 isn't available for £300, but it feels like it should be, in fairness. That being said, I can't imagine a knackered Chinese 125 firing your imagination. Why compromise though? If you want a hands-on project of some sort to keep you busy, I can understand that. However, it doesn't have to be a bike. It could be a woodwork project or something. Someone will be giving away pallets for free in your area, on Gumtree. Or you could build that amplifier you've always been thinking about. Or a push-bike.
