Don't know what the temperature gets to , but usually when I can't get my own gloves off due to freezing hands the missus says enough. We do have a car as well but as she's just passed her driving license as well I can see that being a battle !

At some point I shall have to go out there and start the Snarley up, just to keep it en pointe so to speak.

i hope youre using your optimate?

No, actually.
Can I please have helpful tips about how to use it in order to keep my (newish) battery from going flat, other than starting it up and maybe riding it to the end of the road and back, every couple of weeks.

If you're talking about riding it less than, at least, a few miles, you'll be draining the battery if you do that. It takes a load of energy from the battery to start the bike from cold, and the bike won't have recovered that energy if you're only going a short distance. Also, just starting the bike but not letting it get fully up to temperature (just on the driveway or whatever) will probably do the bike more harm than good long term.

Personally, I've got through plenty of winters doing absolutely nothing to the bike, and just taking the battery off and putting it on a normal cheap charger for a few hours in the spring. My battery might have degraded, but not in any way that I noticed. I've got my street triple on an optimate charger now, it's supposed to maintain the battery, and you can just leave it on indefinitely and forget about it, but I've honestly only bothered because street triples can have charging issues and the alarm kills the battery.
