My laptop, according to speccy has 2 ram slots with only 1 used as shown below. Now is it worth me getting another 8GB RAM for the other slot and will it matter if the Hz are different. ie will this work OK or suggestions on something better?

I reckon it will work as I think your current dram (798.4Mhz)
is 1600 too as its actually clocked at half the nominal/advertised speed of 1600Mhz

I was curious as to why your lappy was using 86% of your current ram when you ran speccy
heavy user?

I wouldn't mix. I'm sure if you look you'll find another one.

I’ve run mismatched memory before in a laptop without issues, but you’re always best off with a matched pair of sticks.

Oh well, mismatched or not, done and working although I'd fogotten it was such a pain to get into the laptop. It seems quicker but that could just be wishful thinking on my part.

It's entirely up to you.

If you had bought compatible memory it would probably have seen that and switched to DUAL and capitalised of the concept of DDR and hence faster memory. It may need a BIOS setting to do it, or maybe you haven't matched the memory in which case it will remain in SINGLE mode.

It's got the same size ram, the same type of ram, the same ghz. It fits in the slot. So whats the problem? Does it need two holes to be buggered properly?

Dual channel and DDR are different things.

Laptop has been upgraded, doesn’t need any extra benefit, so who cares. It’s job done.

Not related at all. DDR just sends signals on both sides of the clock signals. It's nothing to do with the width of the pipe.

You'll only see real-world gains in *some* high end gaming, and I don't think that's the goal here.

I nearly agreed with you, seemed quite logical, but apparently it's Advanced Micro Devices. Who new (or cared enough to find out)?

Is it a Pavillion Notebook? Have you got a model number for the Laptop.

Seems your Motherboard doesn't support 'Dual Channel', here's some interesting links should you be interested, you've prolly already got them. I only asked because my last machine was Dual Channel and it was donkeys years old, I assumed all newer machines would be by now.
