I suppose the other way to look at it is if someone's offered you a job it's on them if you're not up to snuff. Life's easier if you can share out the blame Very Happy

Jealous. Can't get a sparkie to come out and do mine for love or anything else. I think it's too easy a job for them to bother, I want the certification tho to avoid any issues if insurance has to get involved in the future

I think I’ve fallen on my feet in respect of a decent local electrician.
He has all the right paperwork and signed off all works done.
He was very thorough and even a klutz like me can see that his work is good.
Like you I wanted the appropriate certificates for insurance purposes.

I recommend ‘Check-A-Trader’ , it worked for me.

Got sidetracked into watching a Sotheby's jewellery auction online tonight. OMG Shocked

I'm not all that bothered (!) about the ridiculous amounts of money.
I know it could buy hospitals and operations and whatever else, but that will never happen. So I enjoy the spectacle of stupidly expensive auctions.
Can't knock free entertainment, better than Emmerdale.

There's no envy, although yeah ... Thinking it would be nice Laughing ... but I just like to see the *stuff*. The art and the jewels and the furniture.

It's a magpie-thing I've got.

Shiny, shiny.

Got a business case I've rejected that was ultimately going in front of the cabinet office.

It has to be better than that, chaps.

Told a manager that it is possible to say no to cycling pressure groups if their demands are dangerous, especially as if they can cycle another 35m they could do the same journey in relative safety.

When pressed I then told him that if he did want their demanded scheme put in he would have to state that to me in writing, also mentioning it was against my advice and with his name and job title at the bottom in big letters. This was so if there was a strawberry jamming and a Coroner asked embarrassing questions I could wave it about.

He's gone away to think about it.

I love when that happens.

"So you're willing to accept the risk against my professional advice? Fine, put it in writing and copy in the SIRO (Senior Information Risk Owner) and Chief Executive please."

They never go ahead for some reason. Laughing

It's almost as satisfying as issuing a cease and desist and pointing out that had I been involved in the initial project planning...

I need to understand this "risk" malarkey.

I'm going to be taking minutes in the risk-and-something-something committee as of the new year, part of my new job.
(just one of five committees I shall be busily taking minutes for Rolling Eyes )

So I shall be spending the holidays reading old copies of minutes and agendas, so that I can start to understand what the actual fuck they are banging on about Laughing

But its got to be better than typing about snot.

It's quite simple. A risk is measured by the likelihood of something happening and the impact it has should it happen. It's usually scored on a matrix (we use 5 x 5) and areas shaded red, amber (sometimes yellow as well as amber) and green according to appetite. You set a metric to measure the levels of likelihood and impact and away you go. The matrix looks like this:

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/a7/ac/e9/a7ace9f08b3e20f4fef77d76202bf02e.png

The more areas shaded red and fewer green, the lower the risk appetite, the fewer shaded red and more green, the higher the risk appetite.

Once you've evaluated your risk you need to treat it and that can be done one of several ways:

Reduce it: Apply controls to reduce the likelihood of it happening
Mitigate it: Apply controls to reduce the impact of it happening
Transfer or share it: Pass to or share the risk with someone else - usually via insurance or partnership
Accept it: Self explanatory
Avoid it: Don't do whatever it is that causes the risk

And there you have it, risk management 101. Laughing

Apologies for the huge table and the horrible misspelling of likelihood. 'Twas nabbed from the web.

Three months ago, I started a new job, which means I'm back on PAYE for the first time since the late 90s.

When I started, I was immediately entitled to 7.5 days holiday, plus an extra one for my birthday, so this morning and for the first time in nearly 25 years, I began a week of sitting at home doing sod all and being paid for it.

Thumbs Up Very Happy

Snapped a car spring over a speed bump outside Tesco’s on the way home from work, and it’s rubbing on the tyre big time. I ditched the car and walked home with two bags of groceries feeling generally annoyed after a bad day at work. So “grinds,” right? But I knew there were garages very close by, open tomorrow, and it’s mild weather. I put the battery back in the ZX6R, fired her up (the beauty), retrieved the work’s laptop from the boot of the car, checked in with the shop’s customer services desk (no overnight ticket) and… I’m a weekday morning/evening (the worst times) biker again. Hoo Ra! I am the master of my own destiny again.

Do keep us updated with any side effects. My booster had my shoulder feeling like it had been punched.
Shit sleeps for a week because I kept waking up if I rolled onto my left side.
Probably not the vaccine itself, more the clumsy administration.

As we move towards a more progressive, online age, it seems that certain old-school skills are in a state of decline. A fact about which I am glad, in the light of what I've just seen. Very Happy

Hopefully it’ll all be gone tomorrow and I’ll be back to normal?

Re-watching this classic Hale & Pace sketch - I'd probably fly with them if they actually did an airline.

Strangely enough, I had absolutely no problems with the booster jab (which I had back in October) - for the first two I had proper wankers of headaches for several weeks afterwards. But with the booster - nowt more than a slightly punched arm for a couple of days.

I wonder if they’d provide me with pea-wet seeing as they’re a dab hand with the ladle. Question

The first is offensive, the second is made up and the 3rd reminds me of Jilted John...
