Hello. I am not really a new rider but I feel like one. I recently decided that I want to get a bike again after 12 years of absence from the scene and I am a bit lost. I used to ride an R1 (99) and a GSXR1000 (K5) up to 2009 until it got stolen. I am getting a bit older now and I am considering a cafe racer but I don't seem to compromise with anything less than a 1000 in my head in fear that it will never be enough power/emotion connection in less CCs Laughing . I haven't actually driven anything of the sort
I have the voice though in the back of my head telling me to get a supersport again... then thinking about an on/off... then back to some BMWs 1050Rs or moto guzis... I am literally lost and I want your input on this... anybody with a similar experience? Thank you Very Happy

Probably best to just wander round some motorcycle dealers and see what takes your fancy.

Not sure how old is "older", but a cafe racer with clip-ons isn't likely to be the most forgiving if flexibility is no longer your friend.

Don't pay too much heed to CC; there's so much variability in power per CC and if you've not ridden for a while, you might be surprised how much more "strangled" the roads are now.

Tell us a bit more what you want it for - guessing pleasure rides without luggage or pillion?

Think of it like a car.

You want to take a trip to a coffee shop 50 miles away, just because it's a nice day, so you need a Hummer, right? Don't compromise! Nothing less will do or you won't be a real man. Laughing Not necessarily.

You can get what you really like. I'd say there's much more fun in lots of lower cc bikes, especially if all you use a 1000cc bike for is to be first off the lights, do straight line dual carriageway or motorway riding (boring), etc. Country roads are where the fun is to be found.

If you're serious about supersport 1000 and want to get back into track riding, then of course get one. But the idea is to be yourself and have fun. I don't think there's anyone left to impress out there any more with a bike. I mean, get a 1000 supersport if that suits the sort of riding you want to do, but not if you think there's a pub car park somewhere where you'll find some blokes and a "scene". I think those days are over.
