I have a bit of a unusual situation with my 2009 BMW G650X Challenge.

I originally brought the bike into Canada back in 2013 to ride the Trans Canadian adventure trail and the plan at the time was to carry on down thru the states and central/south america the following year, then either ship back to the UK or to south Africa and ride back north to the UK the next following year.

Well the first part happened and then l ended up marrying a Canadian girl and having a family etc. The bike has been used to ride around the local area a few times each summer but has only really done a few hundred miles in the last 8-9 years. Its a waste of a good dual-sport/travel bike and l would like to sell it on.

I have look into various ways to get it registered here in Canada but it is impossible due to it being a European model via the VIN and only 20 North American spec ones were ever imported officially so no chance getting another frame/VIN, which is not really legal to do any way.

It appears l only have two Options:

1) Sell the bike to a UK or other non-Canadian national as a travel bike. Though l can see this option being a fu*k around with COVID nonsense still going on.

2) Ship the bike back to the UK in a crate and then get someone to sell it back home. Bike still has UK Reg with V5 and is currently showing SORN on the DVLA website. I think it was SORN back in 2013, is this still accurate or did it have to be done every year? could l be in trouble with the DVLA when selling it?

I can't help you out with the technicalities of importing your bike back into the UK other than I don't think the SORN thing will be an issue as I believe you only need to declare it once and since it wasn't being used in the UK then it's all good.

On the Canadian girl thing, the same thing actually happened to me, I am going out with a girl from Quebec. We are trying to sort out her visa, etc for here in the UK for the long-term with a view to getting her permanent residency. I love the Gaspe peninsula, I am probably going to buy a second home somewhere on the Quebec side of Charleur Bay and as close to the R 132 as possible sometime in the future (it will be years down the line as I need to get a new house sorted and settled here in the UK first). Either that or somewhere close to the Montana border in Alberta.

Horizons unlimited is the place to ask (either on the forum or the Facebook groups). You might even find a buyer there.

Turn it into a offroad bike. They are actually pretty good dirt bikes.

Might even be able to sell it over in Canada land as a off road dirt bike.

Doubt you will have trouble finding someone who sees no issue with driving a bike on the road that is technically not allowed to be on the road Razz

Also if you cant register it in Canada cant you get it registered in the states? Maybe they are less lax when it comes to EU imports idk.

I would contact iconicmotorbikes in California they ship bikes all over the world. They can probably figure out the title if possible. Worth a try.
