Yes, because you need the jets to go in the same direction otherwise the net effect is zero force. Thrust comes out of both ends.

That...doesn't make any sense. Where would the air go in? It's not a rocket engine, it mixes air with fuel. Also pretty much every image/diagram on the wiki page for pulse jets shows a straight tube (with air going in one end and thrust out the other). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulsejet

Have a look at that youtube video you posted. The flame front moves in a pulse from one end of the pipe to the other and exhaust comes out both ends.

I grew up watching Scrapheap Challenge and wheeler dealers and it's probably a large reason why I like fixing things myself.
Wheeler Dealers was very fake unfortunately. Ed admitted on his youtube channel (that's worth watching) that Paul did most of the work and he just did the 3 main fixes for the camera. I've heard stories from people involved that there's always lots more to fix than they show you too, so the profits they show are complete nonsense.

I would like to revive an old 911 if one came up at the right price which is possibly wishful thinking these days anyway - but as a case in point the 911 engine can only be extracted from underneath the car and would require putting the car on a lift for example?

Probably the same as people do Toyota Mr2's, stick the car on stands and drop it out. I've been restoring a Mk1 MR2 for about 4 years now and it's a bit different to doing a bike and everything just takes longer because of the size. You do need a bit more space too if you plan on stripping the whole thing since you can easily take up another cars worth with parts.

Bloody hell you're right. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valveless_pulsejet

It sucks in air and produces thrust through the "inlet" with each pulse. So weird.

Yes, TV can be misleading at the best of times, the editing sometimes leaves out all the effing and blinding when parts are seized and bolts round off, or having to put the job on hold while waiting for parts to turn up etc - giving the impression that everything went like clockwork and could be completed in a few afternoons.

The MR2 sounds like a great project Very Happy , if I had a large enough garage or back yard I would definitely consider a car project.

I wasn't a dedicated watcher, but in the few episodes I watched I don't remember that ever being mentioned as the intent. Most amateurs don't have access to a massive workshop, or a dedicated team. If it was meant to be representing the enthusiastic amateur, who was occupying that role on the show? Brewer didn't do any of the work, and Ed had access to way more kit than your average amateur. They don't make any reference to whether the particular work they do is viable for your average amateur either. If they said things like "obviously you'd need access to a spray booth/chassis jig/whatever if you were doing this yourself" I could see it, but they don't. I'm not saying you're wrong, but that intent wasn't clear at all, to me at least.

Re watch it then. Ed rarely used anything more advanced than a hydraulic press or a transmission jack. He usually explains different ways of achieving what he's doing too, and he always outsources spray booth jobs, transmission rebuilds etc. The stuff he does is within the scope of an enthusiastic amateur, without a doubt. He does occasionally use his lift to good effect, but as I said there is often another way of achieving what he's achieving, and he'll often throw in labour costs in the voice over if you needed to have the ramp or specialist tool to absolutely achieve the job.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Me and two of my mates got as far as the auditions for Scrapheap. We realised too late that the way to get on the show was to be good entertainment for the watchers, it was fuck all to do with your ability to make stuff.

You see in those days, a pretty girl with a low slung boilersuit. A smart ass and a bloke who grannys loved. Sorted.

Nowadays, Black, brown, trans, queer (see any channel 4 production) and a token honkey, Laughing
