I had a better chance to read back on this thread. Flip fronts make you more visible? Not a chance. It could be that your observations are somehow better with the flip front up... It seems very like you find correlation between things that have no actual relationship. Cognitive biasses are a thing, and everyone suffers from them, but we as humans need to use our intellect to push past them. If you assume you're always right, and that everything you observe must be because of the relationships you ascribe to them then you can get yourself into a lot of trouble on a whole lot of fronts really.

It's a shame as I really feel like I'm picking on Smiler here... I'm not but I do observe a few warning signs in his writing here. It was there when he was a regular member before, and it's still there now.

Who'd have guessed that his first post back after a long hiatus was a crash report? I strongly suggest you do some advanced rider training Sam old son. I don't care if you've done 4000 or 4,000,000 miles in the mean time... There is still a worrying pattern - at least judging from your posts if not real life on the road.

That's what I took from the OP, however the street view above shows a normal two way bi directional road... so if she pulled out into the right lane, she didn't pull across Smiler's nose, but rather got out into the lane ahead of him, and he hit her up the chuff... It's all rather confusing.

I thought she pulled out into his path and as he moved right she kept going right. Right into his path which he was then committed to as no longer any space to go left and no space to go right as the central reservation was in the way.

God knows why she went straight for the right lane of that dual carriageway,

I appreciate it's a fair bit further ahead but she could've been getting over into lane two so that she could turn right into St. Michael's Road. It's 600 yards down the road. It's quite a well-used route tbh.

Can’t believe Smiler’s getting grief and blame for being knocked off his bike! Did he do absolutely everything to prevent it? I don’t know, I wasn’t there. However somebody pulled from a side street into his path. Surely the ‘fault’ is still 100% the other driver?! How are we making the Victoria m wear any blame whatsoever?

You're missing the point. The issue is that this is very much a Smiler pattern in that there is absolutely no self reflection whatsoever. Of course in the eyes of the law and in terms of responsibility it's the fault of the meat sack behind the steering wheel, but many of us have had close calls, and many of us have been riding for years and never have this sort of issue.

I also have to ask, if it WAS a dual carriageway, and the meat sack drove across to the right lane where Smiler was, why did he hit her up the back or totally lock up and lose it? To lock up in a straight line is rare, and it's also rare for the front to fold when doing that. Surely he'd have had enough time to at least attempt to avoid her, to try to go between her and the central reservation, to try to brake, to duck up the inside etc.

Of course she's at fault, but was there more the rider could have done? I'm not sure, but I'd say on balance of probabilities there probably was.

When did you pass your MOD 2 to allow you to ride a GSX600F?

You do have the correct license don’t you? Otherwise you’d be riding otherwise in accordance and your insurance would be invalid.

Since the Police turned up and breathalysed both of them, they would have probably found out at that point from the PNC whether he does or does not have a license. Since OP never said anything about being nicked I guess he probably has a full license? Confused

Fair point. He must have a full licence, or else the police would have picked up on this when they ran his details and his plate...

However at least it’s a thread about motorcycles

Is it really though?

Sounds like a thread about:-

1. A car with headlights on at 9pm pulling up at a junction to join a dual carriageway.
B. Not paying attention (poor obs)
D. Not moving to the righthand lane to avoid any potential collision, something any fully and correctly licenced rider would know.

But c'mon... who aint gonna see headlights shining across the road in front of them?

Looking on google maps, that junction is far from being "unsighted" and "a surprise"

So yeah, another thread about how Sammy does a Sammy and it's someone else's fault.

FFS!

You're BCF back dues must have been horrendous.

Thumbs Up

Oh Smiler has *A* licence. Except it's the one restricted to 47bhp and yet Smiler just keeps having collisions on bikes that are... not in that category. And remains ever evasive when asked if he ever got around to taking his test to allow him to ride bikes with no restrictions.

Yes, PNC likely will have been checked, however driver restrictions are not always apparent and the issue of a licence being restricted to the use of certain power engines is still gobbledygook to the individual who knows little to nothing about bikes. Being a 'regular' RTC, with no presence of glaringly obvious offences like drink/drug driving, no obvious lack of insurance etc - then this will be left up to the insurance to sort with no further requirement for further Police involvement.

So, Smiler. Having had yet ANOTHER collision - which no doubt will not be your fault - as it never is, HAVE you actually gotten around to doing your full A licence test yet?

I figured from the other comments it would be something like that, but I didn't want to drop him in it.

All seems a bit stalky to me?
