Hello everyone from sunny Shocked northern Cumbria. To get started here’s a pic from the stable (my bikes actually do live in a stable, it’s the best workshop space I’ve had in over 40 years of m/c ownership!)

And here’s the ongoing project, basically built from bits Thumbs Up

Welcome.

I like your XL600R! How long have you had it? Do you use it a lot?

Hi Bhud, I built the XL6 from an incomplete wreck in 2011/12 (long painful story Very Happy). I’ve only just finished rebuilding the engine again (another long painful story Shocked) but it doesn’t get much use TBH. Mainly short treks around the Lake District and SW Scotland. It’s a hoot to ride though, especially when the second carb kicks in Laughing

We do indeed, though we lost rights on many miles of trails in 2006 thanks, mainly, to the Ramblers Assoc.Despite that Cumbria County Council has done a good job of publicising where you can ride. Trail descriptions and maps can be found here -

No need to apologise! You’re right though, we do have some beautiful countryside in Cumbria (and I live north of Hadrian’s Wall, about 6 miles from the border with Scotland) but we don’t have the acres of acres of off-road riding you have over there. I’m very jealous of that!

If you’re interested you can see more of my home territory on my thread on ADVRider - https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/jimrides-from-northern-cumbria-in-the-uk.1130177/

My thoughts exactly. I've had 3 XB12's over the years, and I do miss them, but parts supply is a bit of a pain and I just didn't have a use for the last one so it had to go.

Here's my first (with another 'one that got away' bike):

https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=85392

My second I wrote off in a crash which also triggered a lot of changes in my life, not least of which the end of my marriage (it would have happened anyway, it would have just taken a lot longer). Here it is with another Lightning:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/dsc01409.jpg

and here's the last one I had which was written off a week after I sold it.

Erik was great but HD F*cked him over, as did Hero corp too... He's a great engineer but not such a good businessman it seems. Fun fact, he's exactly 30 years older than me to the day, we share a birthday.

Love the Firebolts, probably my favourite XB model. That black one looks absolutely mint. Shame it got totalled by the next owner.

I bought it in about 2007 to replace a TZR250. I think it cost £1600 at the time, which is ludicrous in hindsight. It was great I rode it for a year, took it to track days and things, and then it blew up. I started to rebuild it but lost interest, and they weren't worth a great deal so I sold it for a low amount of money.

I later replaced it with a KR1S (after owning a bunch of RD350s, two YPVSs and an LC) which also cost £1500. I still have the KR1S now...
