Well then.

I thought I’d update a couple of projects I had on the go.
Just over 2 years ago I started to build a guitar, here are the photos I had uploaded to the woodworking thread:-

Unfortunately I left you with this, somewhat shite, photo of the nearly finished object:-

And that's how it was left for 18 months, stuck in the UK, while I was stuck 2500 miles away.

Well a reunion eventually happened and I was able to finish it off.
This entailed, fitting the electronics, tuners, bridge and tailpiece, making a nut and finally a set up.

Here is the finished article:-

During the intervening 18 months or I decided to build another guitar, I had posted a couple of images:-

Well I finally finished this one about 6 months ago:-

I have also finished a short scale bass, unfortunately it’s out for evaluation, at the moment, with someone who can actually do it justice and I haven’t got any decent photo’s of it, I’ll post them up in a while if anyone’s interested.

Once I’d finished the bass, I started building another, it’s a double cut Gibson Melody Maker type thing but with a humbucker and a P90. photos to follow, if anyone’s interested. This is still a work in progress, the neck is made and the fret slots have been cut, although I've not installed the frets yet. The body is ready to be glued up, I would say I'm about three months away from completion, depending on the weather.

If anyone’s got any questions, I’d be happy to answer them.

Anyone else got any builds at the moment?

Nice looking guitars, I particularly like the headstock on the LP, very subtle reflection of the body shape.

I've got a couple of projects in the planning stage, an acoustic parlour guitar I want to convert to left handed and do some interesting finishing on, then a cheap LP knock off I bought to upgrade as a tribute to Les Paul the man, my guitar hero.

I was also planning to enter this year's Crimson GGBO, with a bass build tribute to Bernard Edwards, but it's looking increasingly unlikely that I will be able to get the resources together in time.

Very very nice. I was forced into rebuilding my Yamaha Pacifica when I started learning to play the guitar - I was actually ready to take the thing back to the shop as I felt like it just was never going to come together, but then the strap parted company with the guitar and it landed headstock first, creating a nice big crack in the body, so it was mine to keep then (in bits). Two things happened; I always used straplocks from that point onwards, and I learned to play. I rebuilt the guitar and sprayed it with nitrocellulose paint. It gave it a nice patina and some of the paint has gently worn away over the years (the guitar was a natural satin wood finish originally), which actually makes it look even better (to my eye anyway). A very different machine to yours though; no lovely grain on show!

I must revisit my electric guitars - I've almost been entirely focussed on my acoustic for years now (probably part convenience and part because I was playing generally with others as a social event and acoustics are bit easier for that, especially with a folky vibe going on).

Great guitars though. I always wanted an SG so I could rock out Back in Black "authentically" (not sure I could do the duck walk though).

That is a bit odd. Initially I actually thought it worked surprisingly well as a hillbilly version, but when the "solo" kicked in I grimaced. I think some things are best left in the hands of Angus & Co.
