At the moment, I get by with a cheap-assed POS Canon MG2500 ink jet cartridge printer.

Believe it or not, if you use decent paper, you can kind of get by with this bare bones set up for most of your average daily needs. My kids both do art GCSE and it will just about do all their bits and bobs. Knock off XL carts are about £35 for both black and colour IIRC, and they last reasonably well.

Best of all, these Canons are like the Honda CG125 of printers - they will run on anything. I can put thick card through them, hand cut scrap paper etc. - they would probably print on bog roll without jamming or chewing it up. Incredible.

Kind of my ideal printer would actually be an MG2500 but with A3 capacity.

I appreciate such a thing doesn't exist, and probably shouldn't either. However, I could personally get by with that!

When I delve into A3 printers I get a bit dazzled by features, tech and all the rest of it. I prefer simple, resilient, intuitive kind of hardware that is cheap and easy on consumables such as ink cartridges.

Print quality is a bonus but not top of the list.

I looked around for something last year, and my answer was no.
I ended up getting an A4 printer, an Epson refillable. The refillable ink so far has been much cheaper than cartridges and lasts way longer.
From recollection the printer / scanner was a couple hundred. They did an A3 version, but I couldn't find it for less than £600 which put it well beyond my price range and hence I settled for the A4 version. That was a year ago, things have probably moved on.

I had an A3 HP printer which cost plenty dollah and it was a PITA
because of upkeep and didn't get used so much anyway
so print heads dried up and stuff.
My Brother will print A3 if stuff it in the back passage
But I rarely use it

Now, if I want large format high quality prints I nip down the road
to pronta print or a local print shop and get them to do it.
It really isnt that expensive and you dont have to fuck about
wasting ink and paper doing test prints.
A local print shop will have high quality equipment and probably even be able to do A2 or bigger too

Just think, for a few pounds you could have this in A2 over the mantelpiece
