This might be a silly question.

What are the limitations of wanting to put a lifan semi auto into a Mutt 125 or similar Chinese frame.

Is it even possible?

I take back everything I said about the person who wanted.to do the bobber.

Op is.far stupider. The first question you should be asked is why?

Have a mutt with no engine and a lifan semi auto boxed.

I would assume that its not a DIY job.

Engine itself is just a case of if it physically fits in the frame, getting the chain line right and fabricating plates and spacers to make that happen.

If it's fuel injected, you'll probably need to swap out a whole load of electrical componants to suit the new engine.

DVLA is fairly easy if you have a receipt for the new engine or simply get a letter saying it's been done from a garage.

The hard bit will be insuring it.

People have been fitting other engines in bikes probably since bikes began, but it takes a certain mechanical skill and nous to do it right.
There are things to consider and take into account
even before you begin.
Stinkwheel mentioned a couple.

As I recall the Lifan semi auto is a 'lay down' type engine like a pitbike or C90. The Mutt is an upright cylinder. So no.

You could fit the Lifan in a MSX/Grom 125, or a pitbike, or a C90 type bike though?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I presume the Lifan motor is a horizontal cylinder C90/pitbike thing, and the Mutt should have a CG-style vertical cylinder 125cc engine, in which case the answer to your question is "Yes, but it's not even remotely worth the hassle".

The most sensible solution would be to punt the Lifan on eBay, and use the proceeds to buy a replacement engine of the correct type for the Mutt.

I've heard mixed reviews about the reliability of Lifan units. They're quite common in the C90 world as a replacement engine, mainly because they fit in easily and are cheap. However, I also hear plenty of issues about them (although you always hear about the problem ones).

The 110s are generally reliable IME, the most common cause of failure is the loss of 3rd gear. A chap on one of the C90 forums tore one down and came to the conclusion that these fail because the gearbox dogs are cast rather than machined to save a few £££. Generally if you fitted a Lifan and it ran past 1000 miles without gearbox failure it'd be fine - failures always seemed to occur early on. Back when my main hack was thus powered those engines cost £150 delivered so, as you say, cheapness made it worth taking a chance.

No use whatsoever for the OP's bike though!

I don't have a clue what this thread is about, Lifan and all that stuff? Sounds expensive. You need a Fireblade.
