Bloody thieving Scousers at it again. On a night shift in the city center, bike all locked up out of the way and pretty hard to get to. Locks and chains on it as you would expect. little Scouse fuckers do the steering lock, did't touch the chains or locks, just fucked up the steering lock.

Nice RAC guy picked the bike up and took me home. Had to strip the front end down to get to the lock pin so that I could get the ignition to work as the pin was bent. Anyway sorted now, just can't use the steering lock. Pisses me off that they didn't try the other locks first before the steering as the locks prevent the bike from being moved. Fucking Scouse idiots.

I tried to get the ignition off to replace, but the security bolts are impossible to get off.

It pisses me off that manufacturers sell a bike £16k when new with a toffee locking system. These haven't changed in the last 40 years, clearly don't work and never have done.

I can't claim off my insurance as they will write the bike off, give me bugger all so that I wouldn't be able to replace with like for like and put my premium up for the next 5 years. Shafted big time Fucking Scouse scum.

Yes, should be removed. It's only use is while you are in the chippy with the bike parked outside the window.

Yup, Every theiving bastard knows how to break them and you just land up with lock, handlebar, switchgear and frame damage if it turns up again. Better to leave it off.

Bastards but this is actually the reason why I don’t bother with the steering lock on mine either after watching enough videos from London to know they get busted in seconds anyway

When I had to change a YBR steering lock/switch
It had those "How the fuck do I get them out?" bolts too.
I held M8 nuts on the top, migged down the hole
and whipped em out like that.

I like living out in the middle of no where. The last bike that was stolen round here would have been a Chopper bicycle.

I would hate to live in a city, even a town or village would be too cramped. I prefer to be with the sheep.

Seems to me that owning a bike in any big town is dodgy. That's why insurance works. So what you lose your no claims. No big deal really. Wouldn't mind if someone stole my bike/s. I really mean that.

The problem is, insurance doesn't work. Not for us. It works for the companies but we get shafted.

Somewhere (new zealand?) has a much better system. 90% of insurance costs are lawyers arguing about whose fault it is anyway. In NZ they only have one company, so noone to argue with. They just pay out straight away. That makes it so cheap they don't even need to charge for insurance - they just whack £0.10p on the price of petrol and you're covered. I know noone wants petrol to be any more expensive but imagine always being insured and never having to mess around with renewals and dodgy claims and all that stuff. It's something that exists and works, and something we should push for in the UK

ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) in New Zealand only covers personal injury! .. It does NOT cover damage to vehicles! Vehicle insurance is not mandatory.

I never did, ever, until I took out my current insurance policy, which specifically states it will deny any theft claim if the steering lock was found not to have been used (despite me using other, much more effective measures which aren't mentioned). Marvellous.

Curious as to how they can know a steering lock was never used Thinking

What would happen if you did use the steering lock and the thief either picked the lock or replaced the broken one? (with a view to shifting the bike on.)
