Finally bought Ride4 on Steam. Been playing it for a few weeks so I thought I'd do a mini review. It got slated on release (quite rightly) but they seem to have improved it a bit, and it was on offer.

Compared to Ride3
+ Better graphics, dynamic weather/time of day, tyre wear/overheating, endurance racing with fuel consumption and pit lane.
- Fewer bikes, less variety (most are 1000 and 600 sports bikes) and probably 40% of the bikes are DLC.

Generally I'm pretty impressed. I bought it on offer with all DLC, and I think I'd be miffed without it, as so many of the bikes/challenges would be missing. Graphics are very pretty, as you'd expect for a modern game, and things like the sun reflecting off a wet track as the sun goes down add a genuine and realistic challenge. Tyre overheating is nice, it means that for some bikes/tracks a hard tyre can be a better tradeoff than a soft. But it doesn't always work as you'd expect. For example, using rain tyres on a drying track doesn't cause them to overheat as the track dries, which it clearly should. Bike suspension setup is meaningful, has an effect on things like tyre overheating, and most of the bikes benefit from at least some twiddling. There is now a personal leaderboard per track, which is a definite improvement over Ride3. The AI is a definite improvement over earlier games, they don't all follow the same ideal line, they react to other riders on track, they do sometimes crash, and they do occasionally take you (and other riders) out, but that happens in real life too.

There are some annoying things. Every bike needs to have the controls set to "Aggressive" individually, it's worth 1-2 seconds a lap, and there's no way to set a universal default setting for it. Traction control, anti-wheelie and engine braking can only be set from the D-Pad in-race, it can't be done from the pre-race bike setup. The rewind function (like Forza) is a standard feature of the game and obviously useful when you make a cockup, but it's not available for endurance races. The bike assist settings are all rubbish (except rewind) so I've turned it all up to maximum realism.

The lack of a lot of the more interesting bikes from Ride3 is definitely a negative for me. I had much more fun racing adventure bikes, supermotos, 250 two strokes, retros etc. in the earlier games, but both the bikes (and championships for them where they do exist) are lacking in this one.

Overall, I'd recommend it as a bike game, but only if it's on offer with all the DLC.

Beat the final boss(es) and then find out there's a whole "secret" region I'd not explored. Lost interest now Sad

While I could fathom playing the game again with a different character - melee vs magic - not quite sure what the draw of "New Game +" is Thinking

I really don't have much time to game these days. Bit of a waste of a 3080ti but it's there when I want it.

Was playing Dying Light 2 with a friend in Coop mode, very nice visuals.

I tried my hardest to get into Battlefield 2042 from launch but it's a bug fest.

I'm playing through Mass Effect Legendary edition... ME1 is much better in the LE, but 2 is... punishing. I'm getting there but I'm dying a lot more often.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Keep meaning to checkout Elden Ring but again, don't think I'll have time to really get into it.

Watchdogs Legion, mainly being playing the DLC Bloodlines. Good game, I've had some mileage out of this.

It can be a time sink, I'll give you that, but the dungeon type areas vary from a 10 min puzzle to an hours long spelunking session. The nice thing is almost all of them have a teleport spot at the entrance so "I'll do this one later" is not a problem.

Tried, and failed miserably with this.

I don't actually consider myself that bad at gaming, but this and Demons Souls stirred my inner rage. Probably because I just drop in and out of games now that I didn't give it enough time to really get into it, but I struggled with the very first area, Laughing.

Started playing God of War earlier but I'm finding the game is giving me motion sickness.
I'm gonna have to pass on this one.

Started Doom Eternal but got bored of having to do the stupid glory kills to have enough ammo to do anything so played doom 1+2 instead and really enjoyed those. I'm on a bit of a boomer shooter binge now and played through Quake today and think I'll start Quake 2 tomorrow, which I think I played years ago.
I did think Quake was a bit underwhelming though. The story is non existent and killing the final boss just involves walking through a portal Laughing

How are you getting on with it? I started it a few days ago. To say it's complex is an understatement.

Returnal

GoT DC (already platinumed on the PS4 but never played the DLC)

Death Stranding DC

Spider Man MM

AC Valhalla

I paid £30 or so to upgrade to PS+ Extra until next June, so it's worked out worthwhile for me.

It was hilarious at launch:
*go to sink*
*look in mirror* [crashes]
... ok
*go to sink*
*turn on tap*
*walk away from sink* [crashes]
(immense gameplay btw)

The bit where you see Johnny Silverhand in his reflection took me about 10 CTD's to get past. The Silverhand introduction mission was the only the only bit I enjoyed actually, and the cutscene which teases a game you never get Smile, when in reality it's a cure for insomnia... I should play it now.

I bought it on launch day, and weirdly didn't once have a CTD. Laughable glitches throughout, but fortunately it ran really well on my machine. Couldn't wait to just finish it and uninstall though in the end, was a massive let down for me.

Are you sure it's not a problem where you've set your graphics settings too high and your graphics card or other hardware can't keep up?

I got TT ride the edge 2 for a reasonable price, and I played a couple of seasons. It's good fun but extremely unforgiving. Better than Ride 4 I reckon.
