RE really seem to be upping their game these days, im quite tempted to try one of these out.
its just a pity that they cant find a few more horses to play with.

I like it. Looks just like a royal enfield. Lots of classic styling queues. Shrouded forks, mudguard stays, lifting handles, straight exhaust with downpipe following the frame tube, air filter box (you could argue for a rectangular "tea caddy" type) even the rear mudguard stay/subframe. I'd lke to have seen a more contoured/shapley engine cover. I think the timing chest on the classics gives them a more finished and unique look.

Although technically it would fail an MOT for having pillion footrests but no seat (there is an exemption for if the seat is covered by a cowal)? I used to either remove the pillion pegs or bolt the seat pad to the rack for my single seater bullet for the MOT.

They did until 2020. Their main market is India and they preferr a 350 over there. They weren't moving the number of units to keep the 500 a viable option. Especially when they now do a 650 twin that blows it out of the water in terms of performance.

You mean the casquette that also forms the top yoke? That's pretty much a Royal Enfield trademark and has been since the mid 1950's. I'd imagine there would have been a hue and cry if the hadn't fitted a "classic" model with a casquette.

Hate to be that numbers guy but...

Compared to a 125:
195kg - 40% heavier (and ~10kg more than my XSR700!)
14kW - only 25% more power
27Nm - but over twice the torque
Price - about the same

I think if I was mainly wafting gracefully about town it'd be a nice bike to look down your nose at Deliveroo riders but not what I'd fancy for >100 miles @ >70mph Thinking

Not what they're for really, but as you noted, double the torque of a 125. They're for a different commuter or a lazy Sunday pottering round B-roads.

It basically does what a superdream or MZ250 used to do.

There are just some things I've never been that enamoured with, that style headlamp being one.

It's pretty enough but I'd rather splurge on the new BSA Goldstar...

theres rumours/hopes that a 650 classic using the interceptors twin engine is in the pipeline.
its putting me off trying the 350.

I reckon a 650 twin version of the himalayan would sell like hot cakes. The main complaint about the himalayans is they don't really have enough grunt.

The styling of the modern interceptor isn't far off the original.
