hi,

ive got a problem with my bike. it wont start unless i bump it down a really long hill. then it wont idle very well. i have checked both plugs and they have a spark. it this a common problem? i suspect a fuel blockage somewhere. also the plugs were quite carbonized when i took them off. any help would be appreciated. also the amber engine warning light is on most of the time but sometimes goes off. also it splutters when you open the throttle fully.

Warning light seems like an obvious place to start? Have you been able to pull the code? The manual should show you how to do it...

Have you checked the manual? Often you can short out a couple of pins on a dedicated connector and it'll flash the code ... You count the flashes to get the code.

Is it still under warranty? If so, go to the dealer.

If not, you need to get a code scanner.

You've been told by a few people now that you need to get the fault codes to further diagnose the issue. As such your options are now:

1. Flounder around more on other forums and get told the same thing then proceed to do one of the rest of the options anyway, or,
2. Take it to a dealer to diagnose and fix the issue, or,
3. Buy a code scanner from eBay, Amazon, etc then report back here with the codes (or on another forum more specialised to your bike's manufacturer),
4. None of the above and mess about with it more yourself anyway.

You're not going to progress this unless you do as everyone has said and BUY A CODE READER. The socket on your Benelli should look like this:

https://www.lonelec.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Benelli_Delphi_ECU_Diagnostic_Socket-510x394.jpg

If it does, buy one of these:

https://www.lonelec.com/product/benelli-obd2-plug-adaptor-delphi-ecu/

Now you can connect any OBD2 code reader to the bike. This £6 one will do:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125094678727?hash=item1d203950

Put the app on your phone, follow the instructions and post your findings Thumbs Up

I'd unplug and check and clean all the terminals then plug it back in before replacing.

i did and its a 3 year old bike so they r all good. one weird thing i did notice though is the sensor has a white line drawn on it, so it may be second hand or was identified as faulty in the past

Judging on the fact its a 125, its not japanese and its clearly owned by someone who ignores code readers for many posts, 3 year old means absolutely nothing.

Don't buy stuff willy nilly. Take it off, clean everything with anything less than shiny metal and try again

ok, so ive fitted the new throttle position sensor and it has cleared the error code. although the engine warning light comes on sometimes still and it has roughly the same problem when trying to start it from hot.

apparently this is a design problem from benelli :-

Hi
What code reader did you get as im having the same problem i think as my reader says theres no codes stored in the ecu yet if i hold the throttle at a steady 3000 rpm it will surge 3000 to 3500 then return to 3000 rpm if i go out on the bike the eml light will come on and the engine will cut out it will re start runs really rough couple of revs it clears it's self then of you go again until the eml light comes on again and the engine just cuts out again iv'e checked valve clearances and there 0.10 ex 0.8 inlet any one got any ideas what it could be.
