There's no such thing as a common law spouse.

Reasons for making things official are similar to the benefits of having a will in that it protects and minimises unnecessary hassle and complications for the nobby household in the event of something bad happening to you and or mrs nobby.

Weddings purplex me. Well modern ones with all the expense. When i was younger folk just used to get hitched at the local church then round to the church hall for sarnies, cake and a dance with some booze thrown in then after the bride and groom were packed off on their way to the costa del sol everyone went on a pub crawl. I blame crap like made in chelsea/essex/mrs Kardashians womb etc.

Google says that the internet says expensive weddings are statistically more likely to end in divorce compared to cheap weddings.

(Webster's Dictionary defines a wedding as 'the process of removing weeds from one's garden.')

I know that there's no legal thing called a common law spouse. Would you prefer I say we're just shacking up abet with both of us jointly owning the house?

In my experience anything that's a bill - electric, gas, insurance, etc. - is trivial to swap over when someone dies. Anything that's a benefit - pensions, savings, life assurance - is where the other end fights tooth and nail to avoid 1) acknowledging the death has even happened (yes, seriously) and 2) transferring the benefit to anyone else.

Where at all possible nominate a beneficiary / next-of-kin ahead of time. Yes, I know that's what writing a will is but that doesn't mean shit to financial companies.

I seem to recall some news story a little while back where some poor widow was hounded repeatedly about something for her deceased husband (might have been father or something, close relative at least anyway) until they could prove the deceased was fully "departed". Companies wonder why they struggle with their approval ratings sometimes . . .

Mirror wills sort most issues out. There may be a separate need to nominate a partner to benefit from a pension plan and a few other things but it's quite straightforward.

Yarp.

If there's multiple dead bodies involved then there's not just most issues to sort out but there's also the extreme very rare ones which can happen.

Think of a nasty scenario or example... fire at the nobby house. Ummmmm, mrs nobbys parents and sister were also present, everyone is deaded apart from the younger two noblets who were still at school due to having detentions.

Initially no family could be identified to look after the noblets but nobby's brother was eventually found and now they're living with him.

With no will that would be an entirely plausible outcome. Pass the popcorn

Isn't there something about kids potentially going into either social care if it isn't stipulated somewhere? We've got a reciprocal arrangement (it's got a legal name, can't remember what) with my sister so if either Mrs TG and I cop it, or my sister and her hubbo cop it, the kid will be in the care of the surviving family.

Kids go to live with family if at all possible.

What would you want to happen to your kids if you, Mrs TG, her sister and her husband all get deaded, possibly when the roof collapses at a monkeyaids 19 testing centre?

I don't know what other options are tried before kids are taken by social services but those situations are things which wills cover.

The reason why there is a quoted 5 month waiting list.for driving tests is because the appointments are only made available 5 months in advance.

Woken up the doorbell at 2am and I have a look out the window.

No wait what oh. Shifty

Turns out bike thieves who're travelling around the area at the moment had been trying to break into the garage next to mine. They got into the next garage along (block of three) but not the garage with the dirt bike in had.

My garage was completely untouched with the garage defender sat there saying come on then if you fink you're 'ard enough. Laughing

Probably do, but then stop people getting in because they are a good bit of kit. Ferals round our way break into sheds and garages with a crowbar. Anything that needs more is the remit of the professional scum bag and they are not so thick on the ground.

I have been informed that that is untrue, even if experience says otherwise.

Well yes, there is a certain element of "move on and nick my neighbours s#it" I partly rely on my neighbours up the street parking bikes on the street or in unarmoured sheds with just a BnQ padlock to protect my bike in its over the top takes twenty minutes to get out of its fort knox compound.

I'm not going to argue about whether or not I found test slots available to book.

Gardening yesterday stuck a thorn in my eye. Corneal abrasion. Spending the next 3 days in sunnies and sobbing out of that eye. 4 hours in A&E getting it sorted.

Quite fed up.
