Am tempted... whats belt life like, how shit is changing the belt / benefit to getting it powder coated asap to prevent further corrosion? |
Belt life is supposed to be 12,000 miles but I never changed one. What you can do is ride it until it snaps and then just fit another. Changing the belt is pretty easy by all accounts.
I had 3 XB Buells, each one I had for over 18 months. The first was about 18 months in all, the second about 2 years, and the third about 5 years or so. None of them let me down. Not once. The second one did burn a bit of oil because the piston rings weren't tempered properly from the factory. That, and a dicky alarm/immobiliser which had an internal battery backup which failed and couldn't be replaced so I had to buy a bypass to remove the alarm module and allow the bike to fire up.
Other than that I had no problems with the bikes. Fantastic brakes, great solid handling, loads of grunt and just hilarious fun.
Do you want me to list all of the electrical problems I've had with all of my Triumphs? Because I will, and it'll be an epic post in the style of Teflon Mike. That's not including the mechanical issues I've had. Also the regulator rectifier issues I've had on Hondas, the seized EXUP valves on Yamahas and the constant issues I've had with my Kwaks.
With a large sample size, I'd say that the Buells are the most reliable make of bikes I've owned, and I've owned a LOT Of bikes. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

My triumph was very reliable, my Honda and Kawasaki were the polar opposite. My Yamaha nearly left me stranded in Spain.
I expect a few niggles with any manufacturer but I haven't really seen anything horrible with Buells. Seen worse with Ducati and that's not phased me though
The more I go into Aprilia territory the more the RSV looks good, but I feel it's going to be a tough gamble. |

Shame, I didn't get the 749 I looked at, guy decided to not sell.
Still looking at another Buell shortly... have also been tempted by a very low priced Street Triple and a Busa but I would like some variety, I've had speed and hooliganism. |
