So a colleague has ownership of an MV Agusta F4 from 2006. It's his dream bike so he bought it without really thinking, but he's vertically challenged and is struggling with getting his feet to the floor. Googling isn't finding anything on lowering kits; does anyone know of either a lowering kit or a company that might do something bespoke?

Cheers Thumbs Up

How vertically challenged are we talking?

An F4 isn't a bike I'd want to try and lower, it doesn't have any seat cushion to lose, and I'd hate to mess with the suspension height and risk ruining the handling.

I've seen people ride around high seats before by dropping a cheek off of the seat when stopped (so the other thigh is sort of on the seat).

I wouldn't worry if I was him, you don't need to be tall to sit on the curb while waiting for the AA!

That's for a Turismo Veloce. Plenty of lowering stuff about for other models in the MV range, but not the mid-2000s F4.

Yeah I did think about this. He's pretty vertically challenged! It'd need to be quite a drop unfortunately (so seeming to be less and less possible). I get what you mean though - it's a precision tool, any big change is likely to remove it from where it's supposed to be.

That was my first suggestion. He said he didn't want his pair to get oily.

This is very true, but he would like the bike to be upright when they arrive, not on it's side because he dropped it when he had an unplanned stop.

Unfortunately I am arriving at the same conclusion he's resigned himself to - it's not feasible and simply a bike that doesn't fit him. I'm gutted for him though.

Yeah, but they are stunningly beautiful bikes Paddy, even more so than the Ducatis you are dribbling over. Laughing

Can he get a toe on the floor? If yes then man up and JFRI. I have this with most bikes I ride, and you just get used to it.

On loads of bikes I'd be right behind him with lowering, but I really don't think an MV is the bike to try with it. longer dogbones might lower the rear but it'll mess up the geometry and might even cause the wheel to make contact with the 4 exit exhaust...

Daytona make MStar boots that have a built in wedge and platform, they are quite pricy but they do help. An old member of this forum had the female equivalent, namely Ladystars and they were really good for her.

Tell him to either keep it as an ornament or just ride it I reckon.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Laughing I don't think they look nice at all, something too modern-esque about them. I like ugly bikes tho Wink

I am just curious why everyone wants to flat foot their bike. I can flat foot my ER-6F but almost never do. I think the last time was to stand up and fart at a set of lights.

When I am riding, my left foot goes down and my right foot holds it on the rear brake. It was how I was taught at CBT and its' stuck with me.

Its not about the ability to flat foot it every time you stop dead, but having the ability to flat foot a bike makes it far easier to stop it taking a tumble if you ever get into difficulty coming to a dead stop

If you can only tiptoe it at the best of times, when the bike starts to topple, the bike will have leaned a fair way over until you can flat foot it, at which point there is 200kg of bike perched over that one foot at a quite an angle, usually resulting in a dropped bike

There’s adjustment on the bike. If he’s short he probably don’t weigh enough to compress the shock. Seats real thin but it could still be cut down a little. Then if that’s not enough lower it with linkage. If he’s not racing it he’ll be totally fine. Better to be comfortable riding instead of nervous. I’m a shorter rider so I understand I have a few bikes and have only lowered one my newer gsxr. I’ve roadraced for years and I think it handles just fine. I only lowered it an inch which isn’t much though.

Compression / sag will need to be set correctly for the rider and the ride height adjuster is something else which can be set for the rider.

OP's mate should get hold of a copy of the workshop manual as it's got lots of information about how to set all the different things.
