Afternoon all,

Just renewing my car insurance via a comparison site (moneysupermarket). Got a competitive quote, existing insurer unable to match it, so cancel my renewal and proceed with the new quote. Except, when I have been through everything on the new provider, the price they give at the end was £50 more than the comparison site, despite all the details being identical? I'm now in a slanging match between the two, with moneysupermarket claiming it's the insurance company's fault and vice versa.

Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know if quotes issued through a comparison site are binding in any way, i.e. does the insurance company have to honour them?

I did encounter this once before with bike insurance, can't remember if I posted about it or not but a search didn't find anything so I can only assume not.

Cheers. Thumbs Up

It's happened to me before, but I know it's common so always go through to the insurers site to check before committing to anything. I don't think you'll get any help from the comparison site, they will just blame the insurer. I think the best you could hope for is convincing the insurer to honour it.

I have heard/someone told me/faries whispered to me in my sleep the if you keep putting in different factors on the comparison sites that the offered premium increases if you go back to the original.

As I said, it might be true or might not. Maybe one for arry.

I get (and would expect) changing premiums when the inputs change, but this was literally just the same. It's almost in clickbait territory IMO.

Yeah, I've seen this as well. TBF it's usually down to a poorly written interface between the comparison site and the insurer. Some you can seemingly get the insurance through the comparison site directly whereas other results are just an indication and you have to fill out all the same guff again and then different numbers tumble out.
