This week just gone I took the Enfield and sodded off to the Cotswolds for a break. I've had a pretty rotten 3 months at work so some time to myself was very much on my mind.

Had some good luck and some bad luck.

Good luck was the camp site was empty for the whole week. Pitched my ridiculously small tent by the side of a ridiculously large fire pit and made the place my own.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52054795737_de892098a0_c.jpg

Making myself morning coffee:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52056332080_4baee17263_c.jpg

Bad luck was, for the two days I had, the weather was extremely variable. Especially in the mornings. So I set about heading somewhere I could get warm / dry and then having a walk around, then seeing if the opportunity arose to do some riding in the evenings by the time things stabilised.

Thankfully I was able to do at least one evening's riding down little Cotswold lanes which the Enfield is really suited to.

Otherwise I just did walks around Bourton on the Water and Stow on the Wold.

Visited the Motor Museum in Bourton - well worth a look around.

Plus some lovely cars and exhibits I won't ruin with more pics.

Ate and drank in local pubs. Had no mobile signal. Sat watching the stars of an evening. Really worked for me.

Then saw a few sights around the place on my walks:

Bibury which is the village that the Passport inlay used to nick for its picture:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52056331935_8d7dd64b04_c.jpg

And various other little spots that were worth hitting.

A good few days and ~550 miles. But it could have worked out better.

Then this weekend I suddenly realised I was guilty of leaving the RNineT very much parked up so thought I'd end that.

100 miles on Essex lanes, stopping at Heybridge Basin for essentials.

Quick few hours around the Peaks today (celebrating a clean MOT from this morning). Fabulous weather.

Out to the Dengie Peninsular for a blast on Ze Big Frau.

Popped to the RAF Memorial as per usual:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52093507940_a76c3f9077_c.jpg

Then down into Burnham on Crouch for an ice cream.....

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52093507885_e189198e9c_c.jpg

Thought better of waiting in that line for one so just geared up and went again.

100 miles. Brings total on the biggun up to ~1500 miles for the year in between rapidly approaching MOT. Which isn't very good really, since I did double that the year before. Must try harder.

I always find that memorial a bit odd. It's as if the aircraft (a Mosquito I believe) has piled in nose down. Seems a bit of a strange choice of attitude to me.

Yes it's a Mosquito.

It is definitely a strange one. It was erected by locals which included folk that were either surviving servicemen or descendants of - so I guess who are we to argue. But yes, I agree, it's hardly the most tasteful of choices.

It is, however, at the end of a bloody good road.

I'm an ex-RAF srviceman, and I think it's strange.

Perhaps we can expect a motorcycle strangely planted into the Mosquito at some point then? Laughing

Away to Wales for the weekend on a last minute jolly.

Mostly over well trodden ground as didn't have much time to plan routes. But taking in the B4520 out of Brecon and the A483 up to Newtown is always a joyful experience.

Friday was glorious sunshine and despite having done 230 miles to get there, I was keen to get out to the Elan Valley:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52159578112_51258e8712_c.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52160601203_57d24d39f0_c.jpg

Saturday was absolutely abysmal weather, and I dabbled with the idea of just staying in town and drinking lots and lots of beer instead. But I noticed that the west coast was looking drier and less miserable than the Brecon Beacons, so decided to head over that way, down the A40 to Llandovery, off up to Lampeter and out to the coast road, ending in Aberystwyth.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52161086405_4d50420572_c.jpg

Then off to Devil's Bridge before cutting back down towards Rhayader and taking the A470 back as, by this point, the rain was tragic, I was soaking wet, could barely see and had no energy left to do any nice roads. It was just get back, get changed, get to the pub and warm up.

Sunday was overcast but, mercifully, dry. I had soggy gear on but heated grips on sorted my gloves out relatively quickly, and my lid dried out with a bit of airflow.

Decided to do a lap of the Black Mountain on the 4067 and 4069 - this was pretty miserable for two reasons - 1) there was a cycle race going on and there were thousands of them and 2) it's a 40mph limit these days anyway. Kill joys. Still, nice views at the top.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52161086410_e1c16dff3a_c.jpg

Then headed to Bala via the A483 to Newtown before dropping back down to the west slightly, and picking up the Mountain Road B4518 across the top before turning off towards Dyliffe and into Machynlleth, and then onto Bala for a sit down and an ice cream as, at this point, it was actually a rather nice day.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52160836679_ccc6539775_c.jpg

900 miles all told, 275 miles on Sunday which was a bit of a schlep for a bike like the R NineT.

Called in to San Marta, Spain this morning for a quick coffee...

While we were taking pictures of the horses tied up to the cafe tables, the gauchos were busy taking pictures of our bikes. Happy days

50 miler to check my bearing install (all good) over to a farm shop (stocked up on nice butter and cheese), across to Jodrell Bank before heading back home. Difficult to get a decent picture unfortunately but hey ho. Bit windy for 8bhp though - 40mph was my top speed when heading into it, touching 60mph with it behind me. Laughing

Took the small human out today for a local spin on the "new" viffer, to some bike related cafe's. Went to the Ponderosa, then The Old Stores. She enjoyed it, and is up for bike night at The Old Stores on Weds.
