It raises some interesting questions about behaviour, and I'm sure you'll find recent examples that you might think it relates to. But I think you need to be careful about drawing too many conclusions.

Some interesting videos on this channel generally.

A 34 minute video is too long for those of us with short attention spans or stuff to do. I got the gist* in a minute via Wikipedia.

You’re welcome.

Since it was posted, it is a requirement that you watch it. I will be asking questions later.

Was it not a wee bit lord of the flies-ish? Where order decends into chaos as is natural without some mutual understanding and agreement.
A lot of innocent men behind bars. Wink

My eye is fuked now too.

Imagine a scenario of BCF without Stinkers and Ste to keep the lid on chit.

Basically it showed that power corrupts.

The guards became more and more authoritarian and began to mistreat the prisoners.

Yes, it shows that in the original experiment, but it also shows that if you carefully vet the participants, that doesn't necessarily happen.

It's a shame we don't carefully vet PMs.

Both Milgram and the experiment have been largely discredited. Bad experimental method with deliberate bias introduced.

I found the "revisited" version interesting though.

Tbh, even though the experiment as envisaged may have been corrupted, it's still a demonstration of human behaviour, just that the circumstances aren't what perhaps was originally intended. Human behaviour is fascinating.

I once had a date with a woman who worked at a place like a prison but for people who are mentally ill and only get released if they are no longer a danger to the public. Some of her stories did show this kind of thing. It was also privately run so the was an incentive to run the place badly. Staffing level were bad so staff developed their own unethical methods of maintaing control.
