I’ve changed shape in my (very) late middle age such that my waist to hip ratio no longer secures trousers in place like it used to. I’d blamed the modern cut but now I know it’s me.

I’ve just pensioned off my old Wolf Nimbus leather jeans which still fitted everywhere except for being too tight round the waist. It turns out I had doubts when I bought them and had ordered two pairs, settled on the smaller pair but kept the next size up and stashed them in a cupboard.

So, the next size up fits the waist, is a little looser round the thighs (acceptably) but tends to ride downwards a bit. I’m wondering whether braces are a solution. Does anybody else wear them? I’m guessing they’d just clip on and they’d be more secure on textile jeans?

If you mean to hold up a pair of motorcycle trousers then why on earth not? The braces would hide under your coat, who cares?
If you mean for normal ‘civillian’ wear - eg none bike -, well, that’s between you and your fashion God.

I've never worn braces on civvy trousers - a belt does the necessary - but always wear them on bike trousers. Just works much better. Plus there's the whole thing of zipping your trousers and jacket together; I find that a lot more effective/comfortable with braces; the zip ends up sort of 'floating' to the right place on your body rather than being 'anchored' by a belt to the area below your paunch six-pack...

Braces would be fine by me. My RST Textiles come with a brace.

Incidentally, what were Wolf thinking with their Nimbus K jeans?

Even though I am really fat and can get belts that fit me and actually hold my trousers up, I actually prefer braces. I think that if I lose weight too I am still going to keep wearing braces.

Just get them and stop caring what other people might think about you mate. I wear them for motorcycling and with my suit or even just with jeans and pull a t-shirt over them that way the bands are hidden under it.

I wear 2" elasticated braces and dont feckin care who knows it.
Narrow braces can cut in to your shoulder and be uncomfortable,
the only issue for me is making sure they have a good gripping mechanism.
I've lost weight over the last twp years and not bought any new
pants cos braces

M&P sold me 'biker braces' for £14 which were no better than
and identical to Ebay ones for a quarter of the price.

Well, I ordered the pair Freddyfruitbat recommended Karma and it turns out braces are brilliant. I had been concerned that slightly loose leather jeans would see me debagged in a fall. I wasn’t especially worried about the look of braces (although they’re actually quite smart) but wondered if they’d be uncomfortable or would ping off, particularly with these metal, toothed spring clips (no hooks in the jeans). Not a bit of it! Comfortable, secure, smart. I think the new leather jeans have moulded to me a little bit, which helped, but still… braces Thumbs Up.

Yeah I use the oxford braces because Im a fatty and the way jeans sit below gut line, theres always an arse/lower back gap between jeans & jacket. Braces hold them up nicely and sit under the jacket so nobody can see the fashion crime anyway. Much easier than faffing around with zipping jacket/jeans together.

Always braces plus zip here. Braces are to stop my trousers falling down; the zip is specifically to stop road rash if and when the jacket/trousers ride up/down while I'm in an arse-versus-tarmac situation. (And it's no good relying on the zip for preventing builder's bum because I'm not wearing a jacket 100% of the time I'm wearing riding trousers...)

A connecting zip would be nice but even when I’ve had Wolf leather jeans and a Wolf textile jacket the zips didn’t match, annoyingly. I thought about getting the jacket zip changed by a professional but never did.

Been using braces for several years now, first starting in 2016 when I bought some new leather jeans a size over what I thought would be ideal. They were far too big but wore them on a 3,000 mile continental ride down to Italy, vowing to buy the next size smaller around the waist once home. These fit a treat and have been worn numerous times since 2017 when we rode around froggyland and down to Italy again in 2019.

I am not a fat person by any means, but prefer braces instead of a belt.
